Leila or Layla?

This is on our list and I spell it Layla and DH spells it Leila.

I've seen it spelled Laila as well but I think if we were going to use the name it would be one of the first two spellings.

I like it "Leila" but it would be less likely to be mispelled if it were Layla (maybe?) this coming from someone who knows what it's like to have to spell my name for everyone (my name is Rebekah, but I always get Rebecca)

I think it depends on how you pronounce it...for me Layla is Lay - la and Leila is Lee- la. this was a name we were considering - except we were considering Leila and pronouced it Lee-la or Lyla and pronoucing it Lie-la.

Yeah, to me I pronounce the "Lei" as in "Leilani" so it still works!

now days, I doubt people will spell any name right, lol! I too am one of those who doesn't even bother saying my name, I spell it, first and last. My name is Adrienne and my last name is even worse! People always say and spell it like the boy name. It's really not that big of deal to me. I hope it's not that big of deal to Jamesen either cuz I've doomed him to always have to spell it, lol! But heck, people even ask how to spell Marcus

Leila although Arabic is one of those languages that doesn't translate precisely into English so you can legitimately alter the spelling without it being "incorrect." K's can often be swapped into Q's, ei can be made ae or ai or ei etc. That's why Aicha translated into our letters can be spelled Aisha, Ayesha, A'isha, etc. and all of them are equally legitimate.
