I thought I would never go into labor with Emma. I was 40 weeks 6 days and scheduled to be induced the next day due to sever pelvic pain and elevated blood pressures. However, Emma had other plans.

At 5:30 am I woke up to use the restroom and thought I felt a contraction. I usually had false labor at night so thatís what I figured this was. From 5:30-7, I kept getting woke up by these contractions, which has never happened before. At 7 I woke Mark up to rub my back because the contractions were making me sore. I said ďI think I might be in labor, but Iím not sure.Ē After he got out of bed, I tried to get a little more sleep, but the contractions were getting a little more intense and were about 5 minutes apart. I decided to jump in the shower to be sure they werenít false contractions (I was in denial). Several times in the shower, my breath was taken away and I was doubled over in pain. I told Mark to call my mom and get her up here as soon as possible (She lives about an hour away). I tried coming over to the computer to finish up some things and try to relax while Mark went and got McDonalds breakfast. Story behind McDonalds, I was induced with Brock and they didnít let me eat for days and all I could think about was McDonalds breakfast so it was kind of a joke to get it before I went in to the hospital this time. Anyway, I ate my breakfast while having painful contractions. By 8:30ish, there was no way I could stand being home any longer and I was pretty sure the baby was on her way soon. Mark went over and got our neighbor because my mom wasnít here yet. And we were off to the hospital. Mark really enjoyed getting to run red lights and go over the speed limit. Laughing during contractions does not make them any less painful, but he tried to make my ride pleasant.

We got to the hospital around 8:50. I was admitted and checked and dilated to a 6. I wasnít getting any relief from the contractions even though they were still 3-5 minutes apart. In between each one, I was still having tons of pain, so I requested stadol. It helped take the edge off till my epidural got there. I got my epidural around 10 and it only took on my right side. They had my lie on my left side which helped spread it a little. It was enough to relax me and get me through my contractions. At 11 they checked me again and I was about a 7. I was a little disappointed that that was all the progress I had made, but then my water broke. My doctor got there shortly after and checked me again. This time I was complete and it was time to get pushing. Also as soon as my water broke, it felt like my epidural completely wore off. I was so relieved to start pushing. After about a half hour of pushing (maybe 5 contractions with 3 pushes each), little Miss Emma was here! They put her right on my chest and her first cries were the best sounds I have ever heard. She weighed 9lbs 7oz and was 21 inches long.

I canít believe the difference between being induced and going into labor on my own. I really feel like the only reason I tore with my son was because I was so exhausted. I was also able to nurse Emma right away, which I couldnít with Brock because I was so tired. Everybody commented on how much better I looked this time. If I were going to have another child, I would wait as long as possible before I was induced because this experience was so much better. I canít believe she is finally here! We had her one week appointment last Friday and after leaving the hospital at 9lbs 2oz she now weighs 9lbs 15.5oz!
