I mentioned in another post that DH and I lost a baby at 18 weeks once and one of our babies was high risk for T18 based on the quad screening we had done four years ago. We opted not to have the amnio done at that point, so we did a level 2 U/S where he was showing some of the soft markers of T18. When he was born...he was fine. We didn't know until he was born though and it caused a lot of stress throughout the pregnancy. I should say that we would NEVER EVER EVVVVVER terminate a pregnancy, but I do want to know and I want to know very early....particularly if we are going to lose the baby so that we can prepare ourselves mentally because the loss at 18 weeks was really really rough on us both. So, I don't want to start a debate, and I'm not concerned with who believes in them and who doesn't, I just want to hear about experiences and if anyone knows if we'd qualify to have one done based on the one loss and the one scare. I'm not sure that we'll do it yet, I'm just in the beginning phases of researching. In the past we've had the nuchals done because they were minimally invasive, but now I'm hearing some instances of pretty high false positives (as with the quad screenings) and I just want to avoid that stress again

I have never had one done, but your ob will surely bring it up and offer for you to have it done. If it were me in your situation I would have it done also. I have had an amnio my 1st pregnancy.

CVS is Choronic villlus sampling is a test that looks for chromosomal abnormalities such as Down Syndrome and other genetic disorders. The test is performed between 11-12 weeks along.

I'm not sure you have to really "qualify" for one, as you put it...I think it is just something you have to request from your doc. I was asked if I wanted one last time, and I have no risk factors or reason to think I needed one.
