Anyone have any ideas what could cause it? His poor little butt is so red and patchy and the skin has broken in a couple spots. I'm bf-ing almost exclusively and giving him 3-4oz of formula a day. I did see the doc and she gave me a prescription to put on twice a day....problem is he poops all day long...multiple times an hour, so the cream never gets to sit there and work. I'm afraid it's something I'm eating but my diet is so boring as it is, I can't imagine what it is. Part of me just thinks it would be easier to quit bf-ing and switch to formula for his bum's sake!
Sounds like Mallory!!! She is a pooper too! I call her my Poop Princess lol. I can't remember how old your little guy is now but they do slow down the poop eventually. She has started to slow down now. Before she was pooping before I could even get a diaper on her...now she might wait a bit. This is one of the reasons we are in disposables right now too though. I have been SLATHERING her butt in desitin (which isn't safe to use with cloth) and then putting a layer of A&D over it. As long as I do this religiously her butt seems to stay healthy and clear. Once I use the cloth safe diaper creams and use her cloth it flares back up.
Did the dr give you nystatin for his butt? If so, that means he probably has a yeasty rash which might mean you could be sharing some extra yeast/thrush with him. Try to pick up some probiotics and take them yourself and open one in a sealable baggy. Lick your finger and dip it into the powder and have him suck it off.
Is his tongue white? He could have thrush and more would need to be done than just treating the butt of the baby. You would be reinfecting the baby with the boob and bottles and passing it back and forth. I dont think cutting out nursing would change anything. It sounds more like a yeast issue or a diaper issue if its only the butt.
Are you cloth diapering? I missed that part. It could very well be a stay dry issue or detergent issue or even a fabric issue. Main thing is to figure out what kind of rash it is first and if its in his mouth. Irene is going through something very similar!
Thanks ladies. His mouth looks fine. I definitely think it could be an issue of his bum never staying dry but it's because he's pooping constantly . We actually havne't been able to use the cloth yet as I was waiting for meconium to pass, then the cord to fall off and then the rash happened...
