Here is our little munchkin. We came home Friday evening, and my in-laws have been here since Saturday morning, so there hasn't been much time to post. It might be a bit before the birth story gets posted officially, but the short of it was that they insisted I come to the hospital by midnight on Wednesday - Thursday; they wanted me to have antibiotics since my water had been leaking all day. When we got there, I was still only 1 cm dilated and in pre-labor. I was terrified of being forced into taking Pitocin, and that is indeed what happened; I had not progressed by 2 am, and they started the drip. Contractions got a lot more powerful as the pit started working, and I was in a lot of pain. I don't know how long that continued before they finally offered to run a hot tub for me, which I accepted eagerly. When I got in, it was immediate relief that lasted for about 20 minutes. I was in so much pain and I felt so much pressure -- exactly like another mom said -- it felt like my whole body needed to poop. I asked my DH to please go get the midwife (maybe not so sweetly); he had recommended that I get her to check my progress and then consider taking pain meds. I had really wanted to do it naturally, but the pain I was feeling was out of control. He left and another contraction started, and I screamed at him to come back and not leave me; I told him to use the call button on the bed. Like magic, the midwife appeared (turned out DH never summoned her; she heard me screaming down the hall, lol). She checked me and told me to get out because it was time to push. I could NOT believe that things had gone from 2 cm and a cervix still too far back to "time to push" in what seemed like a maximum of 2 hours! I tried arguing with her, but she was busy dragging me out of the tub. I pushed for 1 hr 40 min, and finally Robert Gordon, Jr. came into the world. He's beautiful and we love him so much.

I was so proud to make it without pain meds. And it paid off; Robby was so alert for a couple of hours after his birth, and latched right away when I was finally able to nurse him. He came out with both hands in front of his face, and I did not want to rest and give my skin a chance to stretch around his head when he finally crowned, so my eagerness to get him out together with his little fists caused 2nd degree tearing. I also injured my tailbone, and the recovery is taking a lot out of me, especially with visitors here, preventing much rest.

But we could not be happier or more deeply in love than we are with our new little son.
