I went to my first la leche league meeting tonight.

If you don't know about LLL they are a global organization dedicated to promoting breastfeeding and supporting breastfeeding moms. LLLI | Home

I have kind of always known about them, probably because of my mom's work and whatnot, but anyway I ordered their book The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding started reading and I was like OK I just have to see if there is an active group around here, so I looked it up on the website and one of the groups meets right in my town library!

So tonight was the first meeting since I had contacted them and everyone was nice. There were 3 other members besides me, and 3 leaders. Two girls are close in age to me, and friends. One has 2 month old twins a girl and boy and she exclusively breastfeeds them both plus pumps for storage once a day! The other girl has a 7 month old son. And one of the leaders is pregnant and due in June. The other member is older and BF a 2 and 4 year old, and the other leaders have teenagers. I think it's a really great organization and I felt like I really clicked with the 3 women close in age to me. I hope it's kind of like a real life JM where I can really connect and get to know other moms and have a good support system. And of course the kids are all there and noone has a problem just popping a boob out so it's really cool to see everyones different styles and techniques too.

If you have a group near you you should really go check out a meeting meetings are always free although you can have a paid membership that comes with some extra benefits. I might become a paid member eventually we'll see. If you dont have a meeting or you just can't fit another thing in your schedule, then you should at least read the book. It's only $12 on walmart.com and most public libraries will probably have it.

I love that book! That's great that you liked the meeting and the people there!

We have a few chapters by me, but most of my friends nurse and I've never had an issue come up while nursing, so I've just never gone.

That's great! I try to get to my local meeting when I can but it tends to conflict with my mom's group meeting. I'm interested in maybe becoming a leader, but right now I just have too much going on! I love that LLL is the only place where I see people who are activity breastfeeding their toddler and their baby. No one else I know breastfeeds past a year of age, even among the breastfeeding moms. So when I complain about toddler nursing issues people have noooo idea. LOL

2 IVF babies and 1 surprise!

I love my LLL they saved my breast feeding relationship with my daughter. I was about to give up after 8 weeks of her not latching on and pumping. With me not a good pumper I was having to do half formula and half breast milk.
Well one week after my first meeting they had her 100% off formula and bottles and she was getting all her feeding right from the breast
I continued to nurse her until she was 2.5. I always struggles with supply issues and hope that was just because of the horrible start I had. I will need to be away from baby more this time and have to pump so I hope that part goes easier. I plan to have ZERO formula in the house this time so there is no temptation.
