Do Lullabies actually help a baby go to sleep or stay sleep?
Im asking because a friend of mine LOVES these CDs
(Music )
and im considering purchasing one. I just don't want to spend the money if it will be pointless.
What are your thoughts.

My girls could have cared less about lullabies, and we did get a few of those Rock A Bye baby ones. They both slept well with white noise though, so we usually did that.

They're 3.5 and almost 2 years old now and they like to listen to classical music while falling asleep...but that's only been in recent months.

I think for a newborn white noise or womb sounds or what have you are better for sleeping. However I think they really benefit from hearing music when they are awake so I would go for the cd's but use them as background noise for playtime and doing stuff around the house. And when they get older like 2 ish then they tend to go to sleep well with lullabyes especially for a nap.

PS- DH put the kanye west one on our registry

I don't use traditional lullabies. I would use great songs that I also could enjoy and would sing to him. He has his own playlist on my Ipod and it wouldn't really make him sleep, but he would calm down immediately when he heard a familiar song. He's very into music...like his Mama!

For sleep? Eh, I don't think so... I downloaded a $.99 white noise track to use instead. Still use it every night in her room (set to repeat)!

But I do like a couple of my lullabye CDs and I would play them in the car or when I was nursing her to sleep and it became more of an association of happy, gentle things, you know? Humming along with it. So that if she was upset me humming would calm her down. Although after a while I stopped using the CD and just started singing my old favorites from my childhood. Brahm's Lullabye still helps her when she's not feeling well. Though I'm sure it's more mama's voice than anything.

2 IVF babies and 1 surprise!

My friend's newborn would not sleep well at all. It was driving her crazy. She ended up getting a sounds of nature cd and she said it was magical. So she told me i needed to get some kind of music. I got a lullabies cd at my baby shower but i'm not sure what i will use yet.

when he was fussy, we'd sing hush little baby. he would calm down, but not to the point of sleeping. he's never really cared for those kids' cds.
