I've been looking at all of the adorable crib bedding sets. But I'm wondering about buying one because almost all of them include a bumper and a blanket. For BTDT moms, did you even use either of these things? It seems like all the cute pattern is usually on the bumper and blanket, which when the baby comes will not be in the crib. Are the sets worth it?

We didn't buy the bedding set for that exact reason...I wouldn't even use the parts that make the set expensive! We bought the sheets that went with our theme (Dr. Seuss) and then bought a solid-color bed skirt to complement it. We also bought a solid-color mesh bumper once she was 9-ish months because it kept her paci from falling out I didn't regret the decision at all...the bumper and blanket would have just gone to waste.

we did end up hanging a baby quilt MIL made that matched the theme, but I didn't buy sets, just crib sheets that matched.

Its not that you can't use a normal bumper, but its not recommended once the baby can move around alot because it poses a risk of suffocation. Some still choose to do so.. just another one of those choices that is up to each individual parent

I bought a bedding set and yes for me it was a waste. We used the bumper for a very short amount of time (until DS was rolling and moving to the sides of the crib) He would put his face right up to the side and sleep that way so i got a breathable mesh bumper instead. Definitely worth the money. Its still on his crib to this day ... Amazon.com: BreathableBaby Breathable Safer Bumper, Fits All Cribs, White: Baby

I also didn't use the quilt except briefly for decoration but definitely not long enough to make it worth the money. The sheet ended up being really expensive (had to buy it separately even!) and the fabric wasn't even comfortable! The basic ones you can buy at regular stores were much softer. I won't be buying a set again.

I think they're usually not as nice as they seem in the picture. I don't know, I've never had a picture perfect nursery by any stretch of the imagination, but we received so many blankets that wouldn't have matched any theme anyhow. And, we have gotten a very special quilt from Grandma for each baby, but after I'd bought the sheets so I just gave up.

Something that doesn't get changed a lot is the dust ruffle and the bumper/crib sheild type deal so I'd suggest spending your money there because those are most visible from the outside of the crib anyhow.

I used a bumper with Kelly and never had any issue. I'll probably use one with this baby too. It's another one of those newer recommendations that I'm not buying into. I didn't use the blanket that came with her set, but I did hang it on the wall and I'll probably do the same with this one.

Trudy still has a bumper in her crib and I'm sure we'll use it with this baby too. The blanket that came with our set turned out to be one of her attachment objects even though I tried to get her interested in some of her homemade blankies. No luck!

we got the bedding set and literally ar not using any of it now. The sheet was super uncomfy, I took the bumper out when we moved he in the crib, the crib skirt was annoying to change the sheets because it bunched up and we didn' use the quilt. SO, needless to say it was a waste!!

This time I'll buy the accessoris (like a lamp, the valance, light switch cover and wall decals) but stick to my favorite crib sheets (velour plus and jersey knit).

Great advice, ladies...I was looking for a bedding set to match our theme this weekend and couldn't find anything. I'm not disappointed now since it seems most of you didn't get a lot of use out of the items anyway! I like the idea of using sheets in solid colors and buying the lamps, night-lights, wall decor, etc to keep the theme alive.

We used a bumper with DD1 and had no issues. DD2 and DD3 both were able to pull them over their heads somehow (IDK how... I had them tied really tight) so we took them out. With this baby we aren't going to use a crib at least for the first 6 months so we aren't buying a bedding set.

They make crib sheets now (I think it's Skip Hop) that have a different print around the sides to make it look like a bumper, but it's not. I think those are cute.

They make ones that go around each slot for the crib too. I can't find a picture right now I'll look later. If I got a bedding set I would use all the pieces. Maybe hang the big blanket off the foot end for now, or you could always hang it with those decorative bibs LOL

I was actually just thinking of this the other night. IF I do buy a new set, I won't spend more than about $40 on one. They make really cute ones at Walmart & Target and they last just the same, IMO.

I haven't decided if I will buy a set or individual items, but its definitely not a necessity like some people think it is, and its certainly not anything you need to divulge $200 into!

Also, we were constantly changing the sheets on DD's bed, so it really didn't matter if the sheet had cutesy patters on it or not, because it was never the same one anyways!
