Okay, first question, ladies. I'm first time pregnant so I have no idea how things work. I just called the doctor for betas and progesterone and all that, and the secretary said they don't do anything like that unless the doctor deems it necessary. Is that normal?

Also, my first u/s isn't until May 16th, when I'll almost be 10 weeks! Is that normal? The secretary made me feel like I was crazy for calling at 3 weeks 3 days.

Yeah thats normal. A lot of doctors don't want to see you until 8 weeks unless you have a previous history of miscarriage or complications.

With my first pregnancy I didn't see a doctor until 8 weeks and I had my first ultrasound at 13 weeks. But I didn't have any complications.

I found out I was pregnant back in late September and called to make an appointment and the doctor wouldn't see me until 8 weeks. I was upset but dealt with it and then had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Because of the miscarriage this time they wanted to do betas and testing.

Its hard to wait for that first appointment regardless of what # pregnancy it is.

Hang in there and just try and relax :-)

Congrats! I'm Due Dec 7th. I too, called and was treated like I was crazy. I even explained that I'm higher hisk because I'm older (39), and they still didn't schedule me until April 27th. I went in yesterday just to complete background paperwork, but still... This is my first, and probably only, so I want to make sure everything is okay from the start... I don't understand why they wont see us until 8 weeks. Does anyone know the real rationale for this???

How come we are 3 days apart (I'm 5w 2d) but our due dates are 4 days apart?

Thanks for the input, ladies! I thought my doctors were just behind, but it sounds normal. They just said call if I start spotting and then they'd check. I worked so hard to get pregnant, I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly. But I just decided that instead of obsessing, I'm going to just enjoy this moment. I'm finally pregnant!

At the time of my first pregnancy, it was common practice, in a healthy pregnancy, to wait until 8 weeks for a first appt & 20 weeks for an u/s. This new doc said they start seeing patients at 6 weeks and I'm hoping I get an u/s earlier! 20 weeks is soooo far away!

Yeah, the secretary said absolutely nothing before 6 weeks (unless I start spotting), but 8-10 is standard for this area. Since I've never been pregnant, I thought you just called the doctor and they do all sorts of stuff that day. I guess every office is different, though. They'll do an u/s for me at 9 weeks and then another at 20. She said they do that to help women not obsess too much and to avoid unnecessary stress. I guess I'm just impatient.

YAY for you Lucy! I'm so glad you are here... I know it's so hard to wait. But I try to stay busy with other "happy" things like park days, working out, and we have a weekend trip planned next weekend that I'm hoping will keep my mind off of waiting!!!
