Hey girls! So I have my 'BIG' u/s tomorrow and i'm starting to get nervous! I'm not to sure why either! DH and I defently want to find out the gender, in fact first thing I will say is tell me the gender before you do anything! I think I might be a little worried about getting gender dissapointment. I'm at like 51/49 % leaning more towards girl. I will be just as happy with a little boy to but I've been wanting a little girl for so long! I do girls, I am a girl! I can raise a girl bt boys, I dont know to much about boys and I'm worried I'll screw it up somehow! ha ha!

but other then all that, I was just wondering what goes on for this scan? What should I expect and what not. This is our first so DH and I are clueless ha ha. I have read in my prganancy books and what not but I think it would be nice to hear it for others who have DONE it not just reading it. But thanks ahead for anything girls!

and before I forget, I just have the u/s tomorrow, my 20 week appt is on wednesday. DH will be out of town and he really wants to be there for the u/s so we scheduled it for a little eairler.

Thanks again!

Well, from my experience you go in with a very full bladder and they do all of their necessary measurements the head circumference, abdomen, femur, and something else. Then at least in my case they let me go pee then my tech did the fun part of my scan just watching the baby move and told me the gender during that part of the scan. Believe me it is very uncomfortable to have a full bladder and have the probe scanning so i liked the fact that the tech let me pee right after she got all of the measurements.

ya I had a full bladder for my 12 week scan but the pressure is worse now, I couldn't stand that! That is nice that she let you go potty before finishing though

In all of my big anatomy scans they typically take their measurements first before getting to the fun parts, like gender. So you might have to wait through the first part while they look at the brain, the heart chambers, all the major organs and take measurements (after all, that's the part they care about). After that, they will look for gender and most techs will tell you fun little tidbits such as what baby weighs and how many weeks he is measuring and all that. Some techs I've had have been more personable than others. Some have been fabulous and walked DH and I through even the mundane measurements, pointing out the heart and the liver, the kidneys ect. And others have been not so great and didnt speak a word until close to the end and were pretty much lacking in personality and just said "do you want to know the gender" I even had a couple where they wouldn't let DH come with me until the measurement part was over. That seems pretty rare though. Some techs are definitely better than others though and some are willing to tell you more than others since most of them arent technically allowed to tell you very much.
Can't wait to hear your results tomorrow!

Thank you Kiliki for my awesome siggy!

I have mine this afternoon but they say after the 1st trimester there is no need to have a full bladder.

As for what to expect, I have no clue but I have heard to plan on about an hour for everything. Good luck! Can't wait to hear your update!!

10/01/15 @ 8.5 weeks
11/17/15 @ 4 weeks (chemical)
1/25/16 @ 4.5 weeks
3/07/16 @ 5.5 weeks

Struggling with how much more my heart can take.

Mine have always went exactly how Angela described. I have never needed to have a full bladder for this scan. You might want to call and check ahead of time; it would be much more comfortable for you

They also did all of the measurements before looking for the gender but baby was not very cooperative at first. If baby isn't active at the time then it may be hard or even impossible to tell what the gender is. I had wished I would I had took the advice I had read a hundred times before which is that if you drink orange juice before you go baby will be nice and active for you. I ended up eating starbursts I had in my purse and drinking my bottled water. Once that kicked in (about 20 min or so later) baby became active and the tech was able to see the gender. So, you might want to either drink orange juice before you go or maybe take a small bottle with you in your purse.
