What do you ladies know about how the heartrate might be a good predictor of gender? I had my NT scan today at 13 weeks and the tech said she thinks it's a girl (!!!) but that it's too early to be sure of course. Heartrate was 151. I've seen some moms mention it on our DDC board and would love to know more Thanks!

I've read that there is no link between gender and heartrate, it's an old wive's tale, but at 12-13 weeks the ultrasound tech can make an educated guess as to the sex of the baby by looking at the angle of the little nub between the legs.
My doctor guessed girl at 12w3d, and her guess was confirmed correct at 16 weeks. Of course things can always still change (you never know if my doctor was wrong, but I don't think so).

I don't think the heart rate has anything to do with gender... I wish I remembered what my older kids heart rates were, but Daniel's was always in the 170 range... This time the heart rate has been in the 150-160 range and the tech said girl at my NT scan, but I should find out for sure Tuesday & I'm hoping for a boy, so we shall see.

Everybody keeps telling me it's a girl because my heart rate has always been "high", so I asked the Doc. He says it's definitely an old wives tale. He said towards then end of pregnancy, yes, girls hear rates tend to be higher than boys, but by then we'd know the gender anyway.

I personally think it's an old wive's tale too. I don't know why doctors still bring it up. But hey, you've always got a 50/50 change of it being right.

I've been told its an old wives take as well. But, in my case it happened to be true baby's HR was always high and she was confirmed female at 15.5 weeks.

I think it's an old wives tale too. Both my girls heart rates were in the 150s-160s though. I havent been told a heart rate this time, every time they heard it, baby moved to much to get a count on it.

I also heard that it tends to be true later in pregnancy. This little one has always been near 140, so who knows! I don't rmemeber my other two.

Those I have talked to about my heartrate (158) seem to think its a girl. We won't have ours confirmed until early July. I believe all baby's HB's slow down just before birth though. I'll be anxious to hear what they confirm for you!

It would be nice but i highly doubt heart rate can predict gender. I asked my doc about this one to not thinking to much into it, and he mentioned when your own heart rate increases and decreases which i wasn't even thinking about-lol... If it's slower it could just mean the baby is in a restful state or sleeping, faster could mean it's at an active point in the day But if the ultrasound tech said girl at 13 weeks, she's probably right! I heard early gender scan predictions based on ultrasounds are pretty accurate now a days.

Mine has been in 160's this whole time, and I was told girl at 16 weeks. For me it's true, but I wouldn't get my heart set on a sex by the HB.

All my kids have had heartrates pretty similar and I have girls and boys. This ones hr at my last appointment was 167 which was higher than any of my previous baby's, they all ranged from 140- 150.

My dr predicted girl at my 13 week appt after listening to the heartrat and it was in the 150 range. While I agree the many different things about heartrate speed online and predictions are mostly old wives tales, I tend to give my dr a little more credit than those since she hears baby heart rates and delivers babies often. Just my opinion though!
