As most of u know, we are moving from Florida to Tennessee next month. We have paid the new apartment in Nashville a holding fee for our apartment. We have the U-Haul booked. We have paid for the movers. Ive made new Dr appointments the first week of July. Kids start school Aug 1st. We put in our notice to leave this apartment on June 30th. Everything is set and ready to roll. I just checked the mail and my husband just got called for Jury Duty in Florida. Its on June 21st. If he is chosen then he is to do duty until the trial is over the paper says. OMG! Im scared. My mom would always get called when I was younger in Illinois and the Judge would NOT ever let he get out of it. Each one would be weeks worth and she would have to find a sitter for me and my brother. Anyone know how to get out of it? This could really screw up our move. My husbands work in Nashville is expecting him to be in the office on July 9th. Its very good pay and we cant loose it. I told my husband if they wont let him out of it, he is to go on up to Nashville and get a new license and such the week of like June 18th or 19th. I will move me and the kids up on the 30th! Even then I would have to fly 2 of my kids up because not enough room in the uhaul. They havent flown before. They would be so scared. Im so stressed!
I think he should ask to be excused from jury duty immediately (do not wait until the date he has to show up) due to the scheduled move. Show paperwork that your old lease is finished on the 30th, show the new lease in TN, show uhaul booking, movers etc and get something from his new employer showing a start date.
EDIT - does he have migraines? or any other medical ailment? (migraines, stress?)
Yeah, I would talk to them asap and let them know about the move now and if they won't let him out of it, go with your plan of him moving up there early. Could he take 2 of the kids with him so they wouldn't have to fly alone? Or could he come back to help you a couple days before the move.

Ditto the three previous posts . I don't see how they can make him do it under these circumstances. Here in MI, they send out sort of like an application when they have a case coming up. They ask a series of questions, including if there is anything keeping you from being able to be on a jury. I always write that I'm a SAHM and not from the area so I don't have anyone who could watch my kids. I've never been called.
Good luck!!! I'd be nervous, too!

It really shouldn't be a problem. I was called to jury duty in MD when I was in the process of moving to PA. I just filled out the paperwork and sent it back with the comment that I was moving and would not be a resident of the state much longer and wouldn't be available. Never heard a word back from them. Never asked for proof or anything.
