Hubby, Kira, and I are going to Colorado in August for a week and I need BTDT moms to tell me where my plans are going to go up in a ball of smoke. I'm asking now since I want to buy the tickets next week and need to figure out whether to buy two tickets (me/Kira plus hubby) or three (+ seat for carseat).

My current idea is to bring the carseat and our Snap N Go stroller to the airport and use them to get Kira from the entrance to the gate. Then I plan on gate checking the carseat and the stroller (which folds up) and putting Kira in the Ergo carrier for the 2 hour flight.

I know there's always a risk of the gear being damaged by airplane personnel but to my inexperienced mind, it seems more convenient to gate check the carseat than to bring it on the airplane. We'd need to gate check the stroller anyway (no way am I carrying a baby in a carseat plus the large diaper bag through an entire airport)

Also, how much of a PITA is securing the carseat in a car via the seatbelt mechanism? We're going to a dude ranch and the only car rides will be from the airport to the ranch and then in reverse on the way home -- so I want to avoid bringing the carseat base if I can help it.

OK, I think that's my current thinking. Anyone see anything that definitely won't work or that I should consider doing differently? Thanks!!

Sounds like a good plan. You might want to check with your airline ahead of time to see if you can gate check the infant car seat. We did two years ago, but I think they might have changed the rules. We had a bag that I purchased from one step ahead (simple drawstring bag) to put the car seat it. It wasn't too much of a pain and kept the seat from getting scuffs on it and kept it somewhat free of germs I hope. We checked the base at the counter. I've never done the seat belt thing, but my brother does it with his kids. I think you'll do fine. DH and I traveled with 2 under 2 to Colorado and it wasn't super difficult. In August Kira will be in a happy baby stage, not need many if any toys, and probably won't need baby food yet. I would just recommend taking a full outfit for you and your DH on the plane just in case she throws up on one of you. My cousin's daughter threw up on him and he didn't have a spare shirt so he had to wear the pukey clothes the rest of the trip. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Thank you Jaidynsmum for my beautiful siggy!

Another option would be to check the car seat at the ticket counter and have Kira in an umbrella stroller that lays flat (maybe borrow one from a friend if you don't have one?). The infant seat it a little bit of a pain to get through security. Between a stroller that lays flat and the Ergo plus having 2 adults to one kid you should do just fine. Infant seats can be checked with most airlines for free.

I like to change diapers in my stroller that lays flat. I put my changing pad there and it works out well. Then I don't have to search for a bathroom with a changing station or use those grimy things.

Thank you Jaidynsmum for my beautiful siggy!
