Help please! Is it okay to put baby in an outfit that will cover the umbilical cord like this:

Or do you want just a t-shirt type top for baby so that it wont rub against the cord as much?

That's totally fine. There's no way it will be too tight on the tummy area. You just don't want something really rubbing on it. A onesie will be perfect under the little outfit.

Very cute outfit!

Okay thank you bunches. DH and I agreed on a dinosaur bedding/nursery theme, so when I saw this outfit I immediately added it to my online shopping cart. I didn't want to use it for the HFH outfit if it wouldn't be practical, but thank you for the info. I'm glad this will work.

I might have to get my MIL to make a hat for the outfit, maybe a little sweater too. I'm not seeing any dinosaur beanies or sweaters that are the same shade of blue, they are all a darker almost navy blue. She has a sewing machine and was talking about making baby cute little dresses (back when she was just SO SURE baby was a girl)

That will be great! We used a fleece sleeper when we brought Kaitlin home in December and that was all one piece.

My daughter lived in onesies the first few months of her life. As long as it isn't too small, it won't hurt the umbilical cord at all.

That is so cute! I brought DD & DS home in dressy outfits, so if that worked, the outfit you picked is perfect!

I would get one in NB and one in 0-3 just in case you have a little chunker or a basketball player

I noticed the sizes start at 0-3 for this outfit. I might have to find something else similar in size nb.

I would go ahead and get this one in 0-3 and then something else in NB size to have just in case. I took a 0-3 month outfit for my son's coming home outfit and it swallowed him whole. I was really bummed too because I loved it and I never really found another use for it. Luckily I had packed a preemie outfit too (he was 6lb 6oz and much smaller than I anticipated for a gestational diabetes baby) and it fit him perfect.

The umbilical stump doesn't have any nerve endings in it, so they won't feel if anything is against it. We always did onesies from the start.

My daughter was over 9 lbs and the 0-3 month sleeper we bought for her coming home outfit was still huge on her. I would definitely get something in NB size!
