We took Archer to the ER this evening. I noticed after tummy time and all the energy with fussing, kicking, and flipping over his chest was retracting. That was last night but he got better. After reading up on things today I called the ped's office and the nurse said to take him to be checked out. After all his lung problems at birth and staying in the nicu for five days I didn't want to chance things. At first they said it would be a long wait so they wanted to listen to his chest to make sure he was okay to wait. The nurse then sent him back right away. This alarmed me. She said his chest was retracting and he was wheezing. The doctor came right in and checked him. He said he thought he just needed to be suctioned. He thought it was just congestion. I tried to explain his past problems with breathing but he said none of that really mattered anymore. The respritory therapist came in and put saline in his nose and used a machine to suction it out. He held his breath and they had to pat his back. It scared me because it reminded me of the time he choked and I called 911. Anyway I showed him the paperwork from the nicu showing his specific lung problems and treatments. He said the doctor didn't want an xray. I wanted one to feel we had covered our bases. I do a lot of research on things when it comes to my kids health. I don't take what doctors say at face value. I have had them ignore me in the past and then something serious be wrong after all. Anyway they sent us on our way with orders to use saline and suction often. I just don't feel better about the situation. My gut tells me it was not him needing suctioned. It was the exersion. So now I am scared to do tummy time and I am suppose to have him do it several times a day to help with his torticollis. I did do the suctioning at home once so far and nothing really came out. I hope I am wrong and worrying for nothing.

Thanks PrincessMom08 for my wonderful siggy!

Can you go back? See another doctor? Get a second opinion?

It's so hard when you just *know* something is off and you're being brushed off. I am much like you, doing research and I'm usually the one asking doctors "well, could this be it?"

I think mother's have a gut instinct when their baby is not feeling well.
I would try and maybe go somewhere else and just tell them that it would really ease your mind if they just did an x-ray to rule out any possible problems.

Oh how scary!! I hope it doesn't happen again! It might be worth a second opinion to put you at ease!

Brandy how scary. I'm so sorry that Archer is having problems. I completely understand about your gut feeling. A mother always knows best and yes it's a good idea to always do your own research. Can you call your own ped and see if maybe they will order a chest xray just to help ease your fears?

Let us know how Archer does when you try to do tummy time again. I'll be thinking of you guys and praying that it doesn't happen again. Hopefully the dr was right and all he needed was to be suctioned.

Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy

If your gut tells you that it's something else, then I'd try to get a second opinion. How scary!

Ack, how scary!! I agree about the second opinion. I hope that Archer gets back to normal soon and that you get a chance to relax and come down from that adrenaline high.

Thanks everyone

His ped is out until Friday. I made an appointment for then. I'm going to ask her for a referral for a specialist. Our practice is part of the children's hospital. So hopefully we can see one. I want him to be checked the right way not just rushed through an ER. I'm putting off tummy time for now and working his neck while he's on my chest.

Thanks PrincessMom08 for my wonderful siggy!

BIG HUGS!!! I, also, do not always take what is said at face value. I think I would've lost Julian at one point had I. Kudos to you mama!

Coming from a previous toricollis mama, I would stop with the full on tummy time on the floor until you see your ped. Do it on your chest. That is also just as good for them. They are still pushing up and using their neck muscles. Do they allow you to put him in things such as swings, bouncers etc? If so, at this point I would steer clear of them (julian wasn't allowed at all) until you can resume tummy time again. I am so sorry you have to go thru this. When is his next PT and ped appt?

Thanks Amanda

His appointment with the ped is Friday. His first PT I'm not sure yet. I'm waiting on insurance to okay it. Then they will make the appointment. The therapist didn't mention not using bouncers. I did ask her if I should try a bumbo. She wasn't sure what that was. But when I explained it she said it would be fine. We don't have one yet though. I don't know if he's even ready.

Thanks PrincessMom08 for my wonderful siggy!
