I've read that people are having to fast for their first glucose test? I thought fasting was only required if you don't pass the first GD test, then you have to fast and have blood drawn for 3 hours.

All I have to do for my GD test is drink the bottle of orange stuff in 5 minutes and have it finished one hour before my blood is drawn. I can eat normally beforehand.

What does your first GD test say to do?

No fast here, just drink the nasty drink. I was curious about this too, seeing other people post about having to fast before hand.

my doctor told me not to fast but not to eat a high carb load before the test as then you are more likely to fail.

Last time they told me to only eat toast and black coffee beforehand. This time, it just says "eat a sensible breakfast". So obviously, no Lucky Charms and large glass of orange juice. I have to go to the lab and they give me the drink and make me wait there an hour before the blood draw.

No fasting, eat a light breakfast. Suggested eggs and toast, no sugary stuff.

No fasting, but no doughnuts for breakfast. Mine will be in the late afternoon so I will eat a normal breakfast and just a small lunch. I get a blood draw, then drink the orange stuff, wait an hour and get another blood draw. I do this at my OB's office right before I am seen by the Dr so will get my results at the same time.

My appointment is in the middle of the afternoon so I will have eaten breakfast and lunch. I actually like the taste of the orange drink, super cold. It tastes like orange crush to me

I was told to eat normally, but try to avoid excess sugars. But I have to find a new OB, so I don't know what they'll say.

I was told to eat dinner the night before and then not to eat anything at all after like 8pm. So yes, I was told to fast!

I did mine yesterday and didn't have to fast. I just ate plain oatmeal for breakfast and had brown rice with broccoli for lunch beforehand. No fasting obviously. My results came back normal today (although I still have to wait for my doctors interpretation).

My doctor has never specified, but mine is always early in the morning, and I can't eat first thing when I wake up. So I ended up fasting with both girls and probably will this time, if it was in the afternoon I'd just eat normally I guess.
