So my friend who is a midwife swears by this. For those who haven't heard of it, they take your placenta and somehow make it into pills you can take. I need to ask my girlfriend for a good site or article to describe the process and benefits. I've actually toyed with the idea this time around but will admit it does kind of creep me out. Anyone else looking into this?

There is no way I could do it. 1 we dont have the money for it and 2 theres no way I could stomach it. Even if it was in a capsule. I know that animals do it and its suppost to help with so many things. I know I could personally not stand the thought of it tho.

Yeah, that's the part I would have a hard time with. I think pills is the only way I could handle it. I know some people "ingest" it in other ways and I can't even think of that without getting squeamish.

A girl I knew from college JUST posted pics of her and her hubby cooking and eating it
She put it in the oven with chopped onions on it.....

I have heard from friends who did encapsulation about all of the cool benefits, but I had no major problems after Eli (PPD, baby blues, milk supply, involution, etc) so I am not doing it.

Ugh, that's just wrong!!! So what's for dinner??? - "Mom"

I guess in the end, it really isn't different than pills though. Just think the pills would be easier psychologically to take. I'd be tempted to pull out some Chianti and do my best Anthony Hopkins impersonation if I ate it any other way.

Because I don't want to interrupt my diaper bag search, can you tell me what the benefits are? I probably would never consider it, but before saying gross and no way, I figure I should at least know the benefits.

don't have the stomach for it.. I worry about the after taste.. Like you know when you take a fish oil pill, and you are burping up the taste all day, i don't think i could do it, i have a very weak stomach in that respect.

More like a dog eating their own placenta which they do, lol.

But no this is not for me. I can't get past the thought of ingesting something from my own body..

yes, we are going to do it. My doula offers the service for $125, which is a lot, but considering what it entails, I think it's worth it. Basically the placenta is dehydrated/dried (like beef jerky), then ground into a fine powder and put into vegetable-based capsules.

The particular benefit I'm going for is the reduction in PPD. I had a problem with that after my first son was born, so I am willing to entertain non-pharmaceutical in the hopes that it will not happen again. I'm trying to be more proactive this time since I have my first son's birth experience to learn from.

Im not against it Which is Kind of funny since I'm pretty easily grossed out by slimy things normally. yes I know it gets all pharmaceuticaled up but still I expected my reaction to be alot more eww. But I honestly think I would be willing to try it although I dont think I will.

I just dont really feel a strong connection/ reason/ personal drive to do it. Honestly Id rather eat $150 worth of Kabuto's Japanese Steakhouse to celebrate my baby birthing skills then pay to make pills I probably wont remember to take anyway. its way less that I couldn't or don't want to do it then it is I really don't forsee it actually having that much meaning to me.

I've thought about it. Not sure if I'll actually go through with it. I'd only take it in a capsule if I were to take it.

The funny part about this, is once you cook it. The nutrients and such are mostly gone. So really, what's the point?

I'm doing this! Was also going to have my midwife take a chunk and blend with vanilla ice cream for a quick shake after the birth. But not sure now. May make a tincture too too have. I have alot of info why it's so good to do. Even if you don't have ppd or milk supply issues. Have links on my computer. Will prob start a new thread in the future for those interested or curious.
