I had an Italian cold-cut sandwich for lunch. I was at a restaurant and asked if it would be warm or cold and they said warm, so I ordered it. It came out toasted but the meat was still pretty cool so not really heated through. Since I was at a restaurant, I just ate it anyway because I did not have a microwave and wasn't going to be weird and send it back.

Now I feel guilty and worried that I'm going to get listeria. I know someone who did get it once and the outcome was not good so that is in the back of my head. Please tell me I'm not a bad mother for eating a sandwich!

Women do it all the time and have no issue. Don't feel bad. But also don't feel bad sending stuff back and blaming it on the pregnancy.

I've had my husband watch me because I'll accidentally order things I shouldn't have or will forget I ask questions (is the blue cheese / feta pasturized?). Yesterday, I had a bite of a prosciutto sandwich before I remembered I shouldn't be eating that, lol. Whenever I do accidentally eat something, I tell myself it was one time and chances are I'm fine. Still, its no fun to have the thought in the back of your head, especially since you knew someone who had something bad happen.

I eat sandwiches all the time. I'm sure women had more to be worried about before all these rules came out on pregnancy.

Thanks for the replies. I do feel a bit better but DH was like "Well why did you eat it?? You should have sent it back."

Ugh men. I only asked him so he could reassure me lol...

You're most likely fine. Listeria is something that's on EVERY cold cut. They spray packaged meat with it all the time to 'protect it' you yourself most likely are immune. They really worry about it during pregnancy because the baby does not. If you're not ingesting it everyday for every meal, I'm sure you're ok. If you want cold cuts, get organic meats that haven't been packaged like bologna or the meat you get at the grocery store.

I feel bad when I eat hot dogs though! I hate that worry you get about it. I don't like to eat the cold cuts for the same reason, but it's nice to know I'm not the only who really worries about it! I've been craving an italian sandwich with just meat for weeeeeks. I won't do it though. hahaa

:hugs:

You are so okay. I actually had a few pieces of a sushi roll with raw tuna the other night. We were at a place I trust to serve quality fish and I figure a few pieces will not cause permanent (or even temporary) harm. Though my husband told me later he wasn't happy that I had any of it, so I don't think I will be doing it again. But I think as long as you do stuff like eat cold cuts, have caffeine, etc. in moderation, it is fine.
