This morning at 1:30 am I woke up to my 10yr old son Alex's terrifying screams and found him crying and standing hunched over holding his low back with blood in his mouth. He didn't know what had happened but woke up on the floor in pain. As far as we can tell he fell out of the top bunk bed. One of his top teeth at the gumline appeared to be the source of the blood once he calmed down enough to investigate. At first he wasn't "all there"... he was screaming and not following directions or answering questions.... like sleep-walking. I called my mom and she picked us up and took us to the ED so DF could stay home with my other son. Alex got xrays and pain meds. Luckily no serious injuries! Dr said he'll be pretty sore. I am getting rid of the bunk bed! Scared the poo out of me!!!

My dd will never have a bunk bed. She falls out if her regular bed as it is. She has a double and still manages to fall out once in a while.

My girls had bunk beds for 5 or 6 years. Never had that happen! We got rid of them because they started to fight over who got the bottom. They both hated having to climb out of the top of the bed in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Glad your son is ok!! That would have scared the poo out of me too!!

oh no!!!!

How did he fall out though? don't they have side rails 3/4 of the way along? at least ours did growing up.

If he wasn't 'all there' it sounds like he was sleep walking and fell off the ladder or something?

Glad he is ok!

poor kid glad hes okay!!

we just got Hunter a bunk bed a couple months ago.. but we wont use a reg size mattress for this reason, like your standard 6" mattress.. we use a 3" mattress so there is quite a bit of railing to protect him from falling... but, he doesnt sleep up there anyways, he likes sleeping on the bottom and thats okay lol
