We've been planning on buying a crib new -- I don't know what to trust when it has been used! I'd rather start fresh with something I KNOW I can trust. Out of curiosity, though, I started looking at CL for crib listings. I found some that looked tempting, but when I searched them in Google all I found was recall notices -- EEEK! I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I went cheap on something only for it to fall apart or possibly hurt little Hannah.

So, for anyone getting a used crib, make sure to look it up first You never know what Google will find about it!

I think most of those recalls are due to parents negligence for the most part. Not putting it together correctly, etc.

I mean if you think about it, tons of cribs get recalled EVERY YEAR. My fear would be buying a brand new one only to get it recalled later on. It seems like they do it to scare parents into having the newest nicest crib and spending lots of $$$. But... That's just my opinion. I got a crib off of craigslist and I love it. It's super sturdy, I can even lay in it with no problem... lol!!!

Everything is a conspiracy I lol'd about you getting in the crib though lmao I remember you said you got one off there. There are ones that aren't sketch on there for sure but a few of them were on a serious recall list! And the sellers were advertising it as "new in box!"..uhh...NIB & on a recall list - sketchy!!

Now that's why I had my FIL put it together instead of Caden putting it together, because it would definitely fall part then lol. Hopefully my doesn't happen to have a recall, but the mini crib we got on CL was such a good deal, I really didn't want to pass it up. But like Leanna said, mine is pretty sturdy also and I'd be even more pissed if I bought a brand new one and still got recalled haha you can't win. But I definitely wouldn't have bought if something seemed off about it.

Well and you know they just made every crib produced after, what was is, 2005? illegal to resell or something crazy like that. I don't think I would get a crib used, personally, because you just don't know how it's been treated or what tiny parts could be missing. But that's just me.

Cribs and carseats are two things that I won't buy used... just personal choice.

I think it was later than 2005.

I can't find the link I saw a few months ago.. But here's this. Personally, I'm using the same crib I used for #1. I'm NOT buying a new one.

Same here.

I don't think, though, that recalled cribs are inherently unsafe. I'm reusing Claire's crib (purchased in Spring 2010), and it is a drop-side crib (gasp...no one call CPS). I know it was assembled correctly, it is very sturdy, and there is no reason to buy a new one. Common sense goes a long way in these situations.

BTW, the company that made my crib (Graco) offered free kits to turn drop-side cribs into fixed-side cribs if you just requested one online or called. If you bought a NIB crib on Craigslist, you could always get the repair kit for free if the drop-side makes you leery.

I'm reusing our crib too, purchased in 2008. It was literally used probably 5 times with Josiah, so I know it doesn't have any wear and tear. If we had used it consistently for several years, I would probably be considering buying a new one, but I love the one we have!
