ok so i haven't taken my prenatals since the beginning of june, i started them again today, i was moving and i been under a lot of stress so didn't remember to take them and i just found them today. anyways is this gonna hurt the baby, my mom flipped out on me saying i'm hurting the baby, now the baby could come out deformed, and that someone she knows didn't take their vitamins and her kid has autism, and the baby's development could be affected! so am i a bad mother? i feel horrible, i changed so much to be healthier, i didn't think it could cause all of this.

I've been really REALLY bad about taking my prenatals this entire pregnancy. At first, it was because I couldn't keep anything down. And now, its because I never got in the habit of taking them.

Folic acid is super important in the first 6-8 weeks of development. Thats the time period that the spinal cord is developing and too little folic acid can cause spinal deformations.

I've heard that too little vitamin d can cause autism, but I think its just a theory. Just like vaccines and autism -- a theory thats been disproven. (Not looking to start a debate war ) No one really knows what causes autism.

My doctor knows that I struggle with my prenatals, and I have since day 1. And she's not concerned at all. My step-mom continues to encourage me to take them, just because its really good for the baby. So I take them when I remember, and I focus on eating foods that have vitamins and minerals in them.

Don't stress out about it. I encourage you to take them, but don't let your mom freak you out!

My doctor told me that the baby is gonna suck anything it needs from the mama. Even though I've had some pretty bad HG, my baby is completely healthy and developing perfectly

I've heard that too - that babies will suck what they need right out of your system. I'd also say to take them if you can though!

Babies are the perfect little leaches They will suck you dry of all the good stuff! I think at this point the pre-natals are for your benefit.
I've always learned that it's most important to take them before you're even pregnant so that you have all the vitamins and minerals in your system once baby begins the fragile development in the 1st tri.
