It seems like a lot of us are starting to think about freezing some meals ahead of time for when our cuties are born. DH just bought a deep freezer for tax-free weekend and I'm trying to think of what to make.

Unfortunately, I think casseroles work best for frozen meals, but DH is not a fan of casseroles.

What are some dishes you think you'll be making and freezing ahead for when baby comes?

Here is a cookbook I've started on food.com: Freezer Meals Cookbook - Food.com - 558280 Not much in it yet, but I hope to freeze up to 25 meals. I figure I'll make 1-2 per week from now until Sean is born so it's pacing myself and not a huge hit on the wallet to do a ton of meals at once.

I'm really excited to be doing freezer meals this time around. With Kaitlin I didn't have anything prepared and it was really hard. A lot of time I would forget to eat until DH asked me if I ate that day

I'm planning on baking:
Banana bread
Zucchini bread
English muffin bread

For meals I am going to make:
Taco Casserole
Mexican stuffed shells
Crockpot refried beans (the best ever, never will buy a can again!!)
Spaghetti sauce
Mini Cheddar meatloaves
Soups
Meatballs

That's all I've thought of so far.

I have 30 meals planned, of course that just includes the same thing a few times, not 30 different meals. Off the top of my head since my list isn't in front of me, I'm making...
Beef stew
Spaghetti sauce and meatballs (not spaghetti like I originally wrote lol)
Mini meatloaves
Chicken stuffing casserole
Baked ziti

There's others too but that's all I can remember right now.

So how long do these stay good frozen? Like if there is pasta in it does it get soggy if its frozen for a long time?

I did this with Hannah and it was great! Here is what I made:

lasagna
chicken and rice
lots of casseroles
spaghetti sauce
some soups will freeze well
chili
enchiladas
chicken tetrazzini

Don't forget breakfast items! Breads, pancakes, and waffles will freeze well and are easy to toast in the morning. I found a great website when I was preparing them with Hannah, and now I can't remember what it is. I know I googled freezer meals and found a ton of recipes that way.

BlndGrl8, the crock pot refried beans sound good! I love refried beans.

This is a great post because I was just thinking about this. I literally had time for NOTHING right after having Akadia and I didn't eat all that great for a while. In fact, I kept forgetting to eat. My sister has this really cool book where you cook one night for like a month's worth of meals and freeze everything. Some of those meals were really good that she made. I'll see if I can find out from her what book she had. I figure I can handle one day slaving in the kitchen.

I think it depends on the dish. The freezer meals or OAMC (one a month cooking) cookbooks usually tell you how long it can be frozen for.

I'm finding this more frustrating than I thought I would simply because DH's mother is the blandest cook ever and so his tastes can be pretty bland.

I didn't have to worry about it with my son 10+ years ago as I was living with my parents. Now that I'm older and on my own, I need to think about doing this for sure!

I started a thread in the recipes section a while back, lol! I plan on putting together some of the dump meals and my MIL is probably coming sometime in Sept/Oct to help me make some meals.

We just bought a deep freezer the other day, and I plan to start doing meals in a few weeks. Problem is, I've never done it with my other kids do I have no clue how to. What to make, what to store it in, how long it's good for....
