So I'm finally recovered enough to check in. Last night was a nightmare. I started feeling really sick around 9 pm with fever, chills, achiness, etc. I asked DH to be on daddy duty for a while so I could lay down but at around 10:30 Emily got really fussy and continued to be that way until about 2 in the morning. We took turns holding and consoling her and I fed her from both breasts for about an hour, only for her to scream and root like she was still hungry. We gave her a little formula which calmed her for about 45 minutes again before she was up and crying again.
For some reason, she doesn't like being in her co-sleeper at night so I have to let her fall asleep on my chest and then slowly maneuver her into it but last night she kept waking up and crying again. So we basically got like 2 hours of sleep all night. DH was at his wit's end. I still felt pretty sick today so I went into the dr's and had them check me for the flu but it was negative. My right breast does hurt so I'm wondering if it might be mastitis. Anyway, I'm hoping tonight is better otherwise I don't know what we'll do! We have to get Emily's schedule reversed before I go back to work. She seems to want to sleep all day and be up all night and we're exhausted!
What part of your breast hurts? Have you had clogged ducts? Is there redness/hotness? Do you have a fever? Even if it hurts make sure to nurse like crazy on that side to get any clogs out. Mastitis can get very bad if left untreated.
I hope you are feeling better soon. Have you mastered the side laying nursing position yet? You can nurse easier and both get some much needed sleep. Worry about the co-sleeper once you are feeling better.
Did the doctor even ask if you if you had any breast pain? Knowing you have a newborn and are nursing...they shoulve asked. Totally sounds like mastitis to me. Hope whatever it is that you feel better soon!
