Ok so Im almost 24 weeks and my belly has totally popped the last 4+ weeks or so. Despite feeling and looking huge now, several people have told me I don't even look pregnant. Im sure they think this is some kind of compliment but I'm totally confused.

Up until about 20 weeks, I don't think it was that noticeable since Im tall and have a long torso and my belly wasn't that big (I was still wearing my regular pants then) but now its a totally different story.

That would all be fine and good if it were true but I feel so rotund now that I'm starting to get a complex. I can no longer wear my regular pants and have a sizeable belly now. Are they saying I looked like Homer Simpson before? Or Im so fat they can't even see my belly past it?

Ive yet to have anyone get up for me on the subway either.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I haven't really had many comments from people either way, but yeah the times anyone does say anything they say how tiny I still am. I feel like my belly is huge, though! So yeah, you're not alone. But like I said in the other thread, I think I would rather the no comments/tiny comments to some of the really rude things some people are getting!

Comments about your size should never be made....unless maybe you lost a ton of weight and even then I'd hesitate to say something for fear of offending someone. I'm sure you look amazing, people can be very ignorant.

I get the complex thing! I'm not getting the 'I can't tell comments' I'm getting the 'you look hefty' comments.

Rule number one in pregnancy etiquette- do not comment on weight unless you must. In which case state 'you look fabulous, congratulations'

I had that with my first pregnancy and it totally made me feel self conscious! I am 5'-6" but have a long torso, so I think I had the same issue as you. People kept saying they couldn't believe I was as far along as I was and it made me feel hurt and worried. Talking with my dr, the baby was growing right on schedule and that made me feel a lot better. Don't worry - as long as your baby girl is doing well, that is all that should matter.

Im not worried about the baby since she has always been right on target in ultra sounds, etc.

I also have a long torso and Im 5'8" so that was definitely a factor in letting me wear my clothes for so long but now that I feel so huge and clearly look different, I dont get how people dont see it. Maybe because Ive always had big boobs, people dont look at my gut

At about 24 weeks - I was at the gym in tight capris and a skin-tight top - and after a 10 minute conversation I mentioned the pregnancy. The person was in awe - and said she had no idea. Seriously?!?!? Did you think this belly was always here?? I mentioned it to someone else afterwards who said:

1. It's harder to tell now because women who shouldn't be wearing spandex at all normally are wearing it all the time. Thus, no one wants to really look or comment, just in case the person isn't pregnant

2. It would be obvious to the people who knew me BB (before baby) to know this is a baby belly and not a beer gut. But even now at 26.5 weeks - I could see how a complete stranger would be hesitant to make the call. I guess it could be possible for me to just carry that much belly fat?!?!?

As for the subway, rub your belly more often!! That always gets them to get up

i am only 5ft nothing and i see people look at my belly but not say anything. my doula says i am still small. but the baby has been great at every visit I still get the comments of "you dont look pregnant" and I know they mean well, but on the flip side I tend to wonder how big my tummy looked to begin with? My friend said it best (guy friend married with three kids) talking to my DH "she knows she is supposed to get bigger because she is having a baby, but that doesn't mean she is happy about gaining weight"

Right now is an awkward part of pregnancy where your belly is probably iffy. I hate how I look right now because it's not obvious and I'm short. I look very round I feel and not pregnant round. Just ignore people, you'll always have the ones that are inappropriate.
