I had an ultrasound yesterday and while the Ultrasound tech was measuring the baby I noticed her measuring her belly about 3 times.. then she said "i'm making sure this is right because seems she has a chubby belly". My obgyn came in and said Bianca was growing very nicely and was at 5 lbs.

My daughter was 7 lbs 12pz and my Son was 8lbs 6 oz.. wondering if this baby is going to be bigger?

I am 33 weeks.

Did all the size measurements match? I was told yesterday that her belly was measuring larger and it could be a sign of gestational diabetes.

They measured everything else and said she was growing nicely so I'm assuming yes. I did test negative for GD but could I still get it?

keep in mind that weight estimates made from ultrasound measurements have huge error bars. Could be plus or minus a couple pounds in either direction.

According to this chart (scroll down to the "estimated fetal weight percentile chart") Fetus Growth Measurement Percentile Charts Graphs Calculator for Fetal Weeks Gestation, Fetal Weight, Growth Percentile EFW CRL MSD BPD OFD HC AC FL HL, Ultrasound sonogram scans

The size of an "average" fetus at 33 weeks is 4lbs 12oz. Sounds like your right on track.

Oh cool thanks Ame, I had googled it too but they all had different answers.. most said around 4lbs. I guess the fact that the ultrasound tech said she had a "chubby" belly kind of took me aback.

she sounds on track! but completely disagree with ultrasound being up to 1 pound off either direction... with today's technology the techs need to be pretty accurate.. you can have a tech who isn't doing their job correctly, but they are SUPPOSED to be very accurate.. mine had to be within 10% of baby's actual weight at that time, which means basically can only be off by a few ounces

It depends on when the u/s is taken, and the further along the greater the margin of error. My dr said its a 10-15% margin of error, so if they say baby is 8 lbs, that means they can be off anywhere from 12 oz to over a lb. At full term I was told Nora was going to be 8.5 lbs. The next day she came out at 7.5!

My dr said its the mother's genetics that will affect fetal growth/size not the fathers (the father's will come into play later on in life), so don't worry

That said, Kristenpie who sometimes posts in our DDC and more often in the Oct DDC is TINY and had a 10+ lb baby completely natural, so it can be done! Don't stress
