Yuck. So I guess I "officially" have it. Needless to say, I am NOT excited. And very scared because (sorry) but these babies always make me uneasy. Like I would rather have a 24 week micro preemie than a term IDM (infant diabetic mother). They just get so sick I know I see the worst of it but I've been crying on and off since yesterday because I'm so worried. I'm trying really hard to follow the diet because I don't want to go on insulin and my sugars were high enough that the MD mentioned it. Plus I'm going to have to get weekly growth scans now. I know it really isn't a huge deal but for some reason I'm taking it really hard. I've been eating (mostly) right and excersising at least four times a week and have only gained 23 lbs so I don't really get it, it doesn't seem fair. Ok, whining over. Onto planning a GD dinner menu
I'm right there with you, Daffney! Sorry you're having to join the club, though. Although I had no idea there were so many sick IDM babies. Now you have me freaked out a bit! I really haven't changed my diet much since my numbers have been mainly in the normal ranges with what I was already eating, but now you're making me think maybe I need to do better.
Have you started monitoring your blood sugar 4 times a day? It's lots of fun... I hope you can get yours under control so you don't have to do the insulin or any meds!

Yeah, I started monitoring today. My fasting sugar this morning was 175 But an hour after breakfast it was 145 so I don't know...Don't freak out. As I've been told multiple times today, all the babies I see are sick babies so my perception of the number of sick babies is extremely skewed. For every bad delivery I go to or sick baby I take care of there are literally hundreds that had no problems.
Such a bummer! So sorry to hear. If it makes you feel any better, all of my friends and people I know who have had GD have had healthy babies with no issues but it was a PITA for the mom (sorry). Hugs...
Yeah all the mamas I know (from the last 4 yrs of playgroups haha) with GD have all had healthy babies. And it goes right away for the mom after birth. I know the babies sugar CAN drop a bit after birth, but if you start nursing asap after birth and just keep him latched on constantly than he should be just fine.
My mom actually had GD with me and didnt know it. I was 2 mos early and weighed 8 lbs! LOL I was totally fine, though.
