Now that I know that I need to wash Zoey's clothes I want to know more about this baby laundry detergent Dreft. Is anyone using it? Is it really important that I use special detergent to wash her clothes? What is everyone else using?

I have never used Dreft for my kid's clothes. I figure if any of my kids end up having a reaction THEN I will change detergents.

Most free and clear detergents are fine. I used All Free & Clear until I started making my own. If I remember right Dreft is not fragrance free. It has been a long time since I used it so I really can't remember.

I used it for my first baby and washed all her things separate. By baby #2 I was throwing baby clothes in with my wash and regular detergent.

I havent and dont plan on using Dreft. I just use the same detergent as I've been using for years.
Because of my sensitive skin & eczema I use All Free & Clear. Which is free of all dyes and perfumes. So I'm sure it will be fine for LO also.

I've heard that Dreft has the fragrance and other things that can be irritating to their skin... we normally just use a free and clear detergent so I've just been using that on her things. I figure if she reacts to it we'll try something else...

I used Dreft with my first because I thought I "had" to, but really all it does is make the clothes smell nice. After those first couple loads, I just use what I normally use to wash our clothes... Whatever is on sale. LOL

Also heard dreft is not so good. I've always used Tide just like with the rest of the family and it smells great and they never have had any bad reactions to it. If any allergies show up we will change at that point but likely just to a free & clear. Don't worry about spending extra money for special soaps unless you have an actual issue and if it does happen, find one that is hypo-allergenic.

With baby number 1 I used special laundry det but then after that I just used our regular stuff. I will be using whatever I buy for the family, for the baby.

Though I LOVE the smell, I can't use it. All baby clothes, my clothes and one of my DD clothes have to be washed in separate detergent. I usually don't bother switching them to the "house" detergent until they are over a year. Rather not be figuring out if it is a food allergy or laundry detergent allergy since they both start as rashes.

Thanks ladies. I will check to see about the fragrances and dyes in the detergent I use now. I just wasn't sure how important it was. I'm not trying to give my baby a rash lol

I use the Arm & Hammer Free & Clear stuff. It's actually pretty cheap, and sans dyes/fragrances. Because it's actually cheaper than our own regular "house" detergent, I don't mind buying it as a separate purchase. I still use it on DD's clothes, even though she's now 3 years old - because I guess that old habits just die hard. That said, I don't flip when her shirts get thrown in our normal loads. I also use the Bounce Free fabric softener sheets.

I'm using Charlie's soap as I am cloth diapering and I read that this was a good one for many reasons - mainly that it actually rinses out of stuff, where as normal laundry soap does not!!

I'll be using All Free and Clear. It's the only thing we can use for DH, so I just use that for everything. I don't see a reason to buy special detergent for the baby.
