We started out co sleeping then transitioned him to a bassinet. Tried a couple of days ago to put him in his crib but it really didn't work. He woke up and freaked out so brought him to our room again. Now he won't even settle in his bassinet at night. He must be co sleeping and actually right by me to sleep more than 20 minutes. Feel like we are back to square one or worse. Before he would co sleep in middleof King bed so nothing was near him and I felt safer having him there.

How are things going now? Try not to stress over it too much DS1 bedshared with us until around 14 months, and then he switched over to a toddler bed with no issues. (until now that he's 3 and more stubborn!) Now that he's older I miss those days, greatly... he's not as much as a cuddler these days now that he's a "big boy like hulk" Sometimes they are just a little more high needs This time we are bedsharing again but he'll also sleep alone if I have him do that.. all babies have different needs.

If it freaks you out you could maybe try an arm's reach cosleeper? Then once he fell asleep you could just scoot him over a little bit so he would be in his own space but still really close to you. I haven't tried one of them before but have heard great things.
