My ped mentioned started rice cereal after the 4 month appointment. Not sure we will be doing rice cereal here at all, but 4 months seems a little young. Has anyone else's doctor mentioned an age for cereal yet? Not obviously refering to the babies who are on it because of reflux

The Dr has mentioned food at all yet. I'm not sure I'm going to give him the cereal at all. My mom started giving it to me in my bottle at a month old and she's been suggesting I give it to Frankie now, but um, no.

We won't do cereal at all. I'll start with sweet potatoes, maybe around 5 months.

I started Carly at 4 months and she loved it. But it's not worth the hassle for me this time. I'll put it off as long as possible, I don't think my big boy will let me go much past 5 months though lol

I remember reading about rice baby cereal during the rice craze last year when they were saying how toxic rice has become... rice baby cereal is supposed to be REALLY bad (just something I read). The baby oatmeal is a much safer product for a baby to consume. But yea I just know I will not be using the rice cereal ever...

Sean's pedi mentioned the same thing. I'm going to wait until 6 months and if he gets rice cereal it's going to be homemade with brown rice. I plan to make all our own baby food.

Amy, I see the Lucky BFP Blinkie is back! I got my BFP with Sean the month I put that in my siggie! it helps you, too!

My doctor also mentioned 4 months and I probably will start around then as long as she has good head control. I don't know if I'll do rice cereal or oatmeal though.

My son was on it at like a month due to bad reflux. My mom is already pestering me to start Emma on it but there is no need at this point.

I don't plan to start solids until Roger shows signs of readiness. DS1 never liked cereal and didn't really start eating solids until 9 months, and even then he didn't really take to it until he was close a year old.

Nathaniel had his 2mo appt today and food wasn't even mentioned. Nathaniel has been seeing a different Dr than Garry, and Garry's Dr recommends starting veggies at 3mo. Nathaniel's Dr seems to be more for EBF as long as he is going the right amount of weight. I like both Drs even with the different oppinions, plus I don't see the point of having only 1 Dr when there is on illness that needs to be followed closely. So we will start veggies sometime after 3mo, when he seems ready or my milk slows up and I need to supliment.

Same here. My older daughter wanted to be eating table food as soon as she could sit, but my younger daughter wasn't interested at all until 9 months and then just barely. I will follow Norah's lead for when she is ready.

We don't do baby food at all. I just give them whatever we are eating, but mashed up really well.

We didn't do cereal at all with Beth and won't with Ainsley. We'll start with avocado and/or sweet potatoes. Even when I did give my babies cereal I had to add fruit or veggies to get them to even eat it.

Mine said between 4-6 months but stressed more about baby sitting up better in a high chair or bumbo to be able to swallow efficiently. I'll probably introduce things at around 5-6 months.

I found this recipe for super porridge that I want to try:
Homemade Super Baby Porridge | Passionate Homemaking

My SIL used it with her son instead of the rice cereal. And last summer I ventured in baby food making. It's a lot of fun and pretty easy.

I won't be starting until at least 6 months and then it will be probably bananas. There is no harm in waiting, but plenty showing the harm in starting too soon.

They recommend from 6 months here, and first foods are avocado, papaya, sweet potato or pumpkin/squash. My kids HATED puree so I just let my kids eat what we were eating. Then found out that was baby-led weaning and was all the rage
