Dh and I have been married for 3yrs, and have had 2 hand me vacuums. I may not be the best house keeper in the world, but when I vacuum I want to be able to tell it. I'm just tired of the vacuum not having any sucking power. So as someone who has never bought one, what is a good vacuum to get. I have a 1800sqft house with carpet. And I knows I want an upright, bagless that won't break the bank.

I have used Dyson, Electrolux and Shark. My favorite is the Shark. It's lots lighter, quieter and much cheaper than the Dyson was. We also had lots of problems with the Dyson that DH was always having to fix, but I'm sure that was just ours. As far as a brand, it's fine, just pricey. I got my Shark at Kohl's with a 30% off coupon. We've had it 2 years and it's still great. My ONLY complaint is that the cord comes out from the bottom and I have to be careful not to run over it. I think my Dyson it came out from the top and I still held on to it, but it was easier to grab if I dropped the cord. With the Shark, if I drop the cord, I have to bend all the way over and pick it up. Again, I can handle that, it's just my only annoyance.

Love my Shark Navigator! It has serious suction & will fluff up even the shabbiest carpet.
