Kyah has just gotten better from having roseola. It's a common virus in babies 6 months and up. I didn't initially know it was what she had, so I thought I would share some info with you all. It starts with an unexplained high fever. There are no other symptoms at first. The high fever continues for 3-4 days and then abruptly goes away. It is replaced by a splotchy rash all over the trunk ( neck, back, belly, diaper area, face, and head), it sometimes also spreads to the arms and legs. The rash may also have very fine bumps, Kyah's did in different spots.
I was so scared when Kyah developed a high fever of 103.2 out of the blue. I gave Tylenol and it did bring her fever down for a few hours. Her fever lasted for 3 days. Then it went away and the rash popped up. That's when it was apparent she had roseola. So scary!
She is all better now, thankfully!
The virus is very contagious before you actually know the baby is infected. I have no clue where Kyah git it but its spread through respiratory secretions and saliva. Adults that get this rarely know they've even acquired it as it can be symptomless many times.
Scary! So glad to hear she's feeling better. That's the worst feeling for a Mom...to not be able to make your baby (babies) feel better. It's even more difficult to treat b/c they still can't tell us what it is exactly that's bothering them. Thanks for passing on the information on what to expect/look for, Michelle!
My daughter had it when she was 15ish months-- landed us in the ER because the fever lasted three days, and she was so sluggish. The doctor warned me of the rash, and sure enough, she got it. Luckily (I guess) they say it's a one time virus. I'm glad Kyah is better now!
Nathan had it as a baby, the fever sure is scary, but at least when the rash breaks out the fever is gone, and you know it is just about over!
