We signed Frankie up for the mommy and me 6 week swim class. He seemed to enjoy it. They can't really teach them to swim this young but they started to introduce swimming. The parents would hold the babies in their belly in the water and put a toy in front of them, once the baby started kicking their feet and moving arms, the parents could move them towards the toy. They work in floating on the back, going under water and to not fear the water. Our six weeks ended two weeks ago. I think it was great! Frankie was also able to interact with other babies and it was a great way for Frankie and daddy (he did the class) to bond. We are skipping this six week session but will be signing him up for the next.
My aunt is a swim instructor and she was here last week to visit and teach my girls how to swim. She told me that her daughters both swam before they walked, but it takes a lot of time and daily work to get babies to swim. She taught me what to do with Norah though so I can work with her as much as possible. The first thing she said to do was teach them to get out of the pool. So that's all that we are working on right now. We practice getting up over the side over and over again. Once she can do that, we can work on a little bit of swimming, but I don't know the details yet. Other than that though, Norah LOVES the water and would gladly stay in it all day if she could.
