So this morning I went to the great cloth diaper change and green living family expo (long name pretty fun.) They had a silent auction with the expo so I bid on (and won) Birth Doula Services! I am excited that I will have a doula this time because with my other two I freaked out at least once so hopefully a doula will keep me calm.

Is anyone else planning on hiring a doula for their birth?

I am tossing the idea around but don't think I will. I have a friend who is a doula in the Kansas City area if anyone in that area is looking for one

Absolutely. Had one with my first, couldn't have done it without her. In fact I loved her so much I am training to become a doula myself. You won't regret it if you hire one, they are amazing!

I am a doula, but I don't know if I will be using a doula. We had kind of a terrible experience last time (which is so NOT the norm, it's very long and complicated and when we get a private forum I will be more comfortable sharing it) but i doubt my hubbs will throw down the money again ONLY because ive done it twice before with no doula, (read: terrible experience) and my two best girl friends are coming.....i dont know, i have TONS of doula friends so maybe I can work something out with them...we shall see

I never even heard of them until after I had 2kids, and by then I didn't feel I would need one. My husband is very supportive especially during labor and delivery. My sister in law and her cousin (who is my best friend) used one and didn't have. Great experience....my friend couldn't nurse (and believe me--she tried everything) and her doula made her feel guilty and like she didn't try hard enough. I know other people who have had very positive experiences.

I wish I had one for my first just because it would've helped keep me and DH calmer. I thought we were educated an prepared but having someone else there who was more experienced would have helped a lot. I haven't decided for this one yet but probably since we'll be trying for a VBAC

YES. I'm using a doula this time. I didn't use one with my first, and that was fine because I handled the pain very well and gave birth with a midwife who completely respected my birth wishes. But this pregnancy will be my first hospital birth and I am absolutely terrified of being forced into unnecessary medical procedures. So i'm going to hire a doula to help stick to my birth plan!

Not I. I thought about getting one with my second baby and I met with the one lady. I thought she was a mega beeyotch just in the way she acted so I did not hire her and I did not seek out anyone else. It was probably for the best.....I didn't want anyone bothering me in labor and it was super fast, so it would have been a waste of money. Other people distract me....I just like to be left alone to space out and focus on the job at hand.
