I am probably sure this has asked before... but for those of you who are 35 or older (or who have some history and are considered "at risk") have you all heard of the MaterniT21 Plus test (or Verifi or Harmony... they all basically test for the same thing). I am INTRIGUED! and we're TOTALLY getting this done.

It's a blood test where they can (basically, I think) separate mom's DNA from baby's DNA (free floating around in our blood, isn't that Cool!) and they test baby's cells for the basic chromosomal issues (trisomy 21, 18, 13) and also can tell gender because of a couple other X/Y chromosome tests they run.

I'm super excited and SOOO nervous. Being 40, I just have to know. I'm a planner and this is important. AND, knowing baby's gender at 10+ weeks (plus the week or two to provide results) is a total bonus

Hat's off to Vicki for my cute siggy, thank you!

I will be getting it only if the first trimester screen shows an abnormality...I am so happy they offer this at my clinic now It was not available with my last pregnancy.

Only if they find problems within the DNA.

Yeah I think you're right. I wouldn't do an amino, and we wouldn't terminate so I decided to save the worry, and just pray!

Lurking Gwynne, but I just had the MarteniT21 done and the NT done. I will not get the results of the MarteniT21 until the 13th. (2wks for this test). The NT scan/blood came back normal, but since Im over 40, I wanted the extra testing. Neither of these tests are diagnostic, and if anything turned up on one of them, an amnio would be needed to confirm. The MarterniT21 is more accurate and not an odds test, but since it is separating the mothers blood from the baby's blood, it is not 100% like the amnio. Im team green this time (sucks when this test tells the sex lol) so I won't be asking about the gender part!

Since neither test will look for neuralogical disorders(msp), the quad screen between 16 and 18wks still needs to be done. But the MarteniT21 pretty much confirms the presence of any of the Trisomy's, so the quad result of the Trisomys will not be considered after this test is done.
