My poor husband! LOL
We had our 2nd OB appt today and got to hear baby's heartbeat. It was nice and strong at 155.

Of course, everyone on FB is saying "All girl", "Congrats on a 3rd girl", "That's a girl HB if I ever heard one" and my poor DH is thinking there's no hope for a boy.

I know the wives tale is something like 140+ means girl and under that means boy.

Have any of you had boys with higher HB's or vice versa?

Not true at all. My son always had a fast heartbeat and definitely has a penis.

Absolutely no truth to it. Here's a graph that shows the distribution of gender and heartbeat. It's an equal distribution. So link that on Facebook and tell them to hush. My sister swears there's a difference in the sound of the heartbeat, but she listened to my 2nd pregnancy and told me it sounded "more like a train than galloping horses" so it must be a boy. Yeah. That was DD2.

There was a study in the 70s that hypothesized this, but it was specifically of babies in the early onset of labor, not earlier in the pregnancy, and even then it was still proven to be wrong.

My first had a consistent heart rate in the high 130s. Girl.

All the rest were the high 150s. 2 girls, 1 boy, and one to be determined.

I don't think there is anything to it but Mine was spot on for a "girl" answer last time.

It's scientifically proven to be untrue.

I don't think it's reliable at all, I've had nieces and nephews be all over the place. But it's fun to speculate and use as an "old wives tale" lol

My second boy was always in the 140s. This baby is normally high 150s to low 160s so while I know it is false I am hoping it just happens to be true for me and I have a girl this time.

All my kids had over 150. I have a girl and a boy, and the one I lost at 11w was also a boy. The twins in me now are both over 160, and I have a strong suspicion that I've got at least one boy in there....

so..no truth in it whatsoever. Old wives tale.

Not true. My 3 rd was a surprise and always had a hb of 150-160 and popped out a boy my midwife says the hb thing is only true during labor - boys hb tends to drop and girls tend to spike.

Very interesting! I think it's so funny how some people are adamant about it one way or the other when there are so many times it hasn't been true.

I have myself convinced it's a girl, and the hb was 176 at 8 week ultrasound. I do remember with my son it was lower. Trying not to read too much into it...just going off a hunch.

Not reliable to use to determine gender. The baby's activity level in uterine contributes to heart rate as well. Both boys and girls are active and have times of quiet. My 7 w ultrasound was 146.... Then at 8w3d it was 160's and slowly rose to 170's. now at 11w it's slowly even-ing out. I think it only holds true in labor
