So I'm on my way out the door today, and my boss stops to tell me that someone made a complaint about me. It was something so stupid, where someone was trying to conduct a transaction after we were already closed and I didn't let them. BFD. So I left the office and started crying in my car, and I'm still crying now that I'm home.

I feel like people love to complain about me, and I don't understand why. I think I'm an extremely nice person, and for the most part I let people do whatever they want and I go out of my way to help them. The one time I don't, they try to get me in trouble with my boss. My bosses will make a big deal about it amongst themselves, but nothing ever happens, so they just make me feel like crap and that's the end of the story.

It makes me think that I should start looking for a job where I don't have to interact with the public. It also makes me not want to return to work after I give birth, but I know I have to. Just had to vent! I'm so upset!!

Ugh. Sorry you had such a rough day. It's so tough when you're dealing with people because you could have the nicest disposition ever and because they're having a crappy day, they perceive that you're giving attitude, even when you're not.

^^ Ditto. and your boss. shame. shame. He should know better than to bring a complaint to you as you are leaving work. That's poor management 101. I bet the way he brought it to your attention was also not very effective, because he could have just brought it to your attention AND also noted there was really no grounds for the complaint so not to worry, but apparently that wasn't done, or you wouldn't have felt like crap.

I deal with management and leaders all the time and it blows me away at how thoughtless or poor they can be in their skills (or lack thereof).

I'm in the same boat as you, my boss handed me a paragraph to-do list today that was in detail about what I need to do--funny since I've been doing this stuff for almost two years. And it was written in a very snarky tone "there is no reason this shouldn't be done....." and " when you complete this...and you will complete this" I mean wth?? I think they're trying to make me quit since legally they can't fire me unless I'm a thief or something. I hate retail, and I hate bosses that go out of their way to be jerks

I think you are too kind. Kind people give the people around them a hard time. You can't express yourself honestly, because you are worried about hurting other people's feelings, and that makes you miserable.~"Winter Sonata"
