4 baths, and I ended up with this

It's a good 3~4 foot square of my laundry room ceiling.

So we called the people who do the buyer's warranty we bought, and they sent in a plumber.

Bad news? It's an "improper install," so they won't cover fixing it. Apparently the overflow isn't actually attached to anything, and I fill my tub full, so anything that sloshed into the overflow was essentially poured directly onto the sheetrock below. *sigh*

HOWEVER, the plumber's estimate for a fix would be $350. It'd be something that would take two people, and while is a straighforward to fix, would be physically complicated to do. :/ And then, of course, there's the repair of the water damage on top of that.

So, bad news: can't use my tub until it's fixed, and it'll all have to be fixed out of pocket.

Good news: It isn't something vital to the run of my household (shower and toilet are fine, as is the kids' bathroom), so not using the tub for a while isn't catastrophic. And it's a few hundred dollars, not a few thousand dollars.

Anyway, how is your day?

Oh that sucks!!!! I am glad it won't be too expensive to fix though.

My day is going ok. I am at work and signed up for a free week of Hulu Plus so I am watching this season of Pretty Little Liars since I was behind.

Yeah, that's no good at all! That sucks though that you are responsible for an "improper install" for something that you JUST purchased less than a month ago.

That's awful! At least you noticed it now and not when it caused further damage. $350's not bad, really, and I hope you can get your baths in again soon

That stinks! Glad it isn't a super expensive fix, but I would still be mad considering you just purchased the home.

Oh no! That's awful! Glad it isn't going to be super expensive, but it's still terrible that you're responsible for paying for it.

In all honesty....it's not that bad. Just a month after moving into our last house (and a month before Allison was born), there was flooding downstairs. It took them over a week to mitigate and repair, and while our homeowner's insurance covered it, we had to pay our deductible. This is easy peasy and cheap compared to that, so I don't necessarily mind it not being covered by a warranty (which only really covered regular wear & tear and whatnot anyway).

I'm REALLY annoyed at whomever installed the stupid bathtub. Simply because I can't imagine that it saved any money to skimp that way, you know?

Yes, but we didn't know it wasn't connected until we opened up the ceiling to check out the water damage, which they obviously wouldn't do during inspection. I don't think they ever used the tub. There was no water damage until *my* baths.

Oh no!! that stinks!

I wonder if they just installed the tub before they sold it, and just did a cheap quick install just to sell the house? It seems like a basic thing that any plumber wouldn't overlook.

I hope not!

That's what we're assuming was going on. The plumber who came to look at it was angry, actually. He kind of went off on a rant about how it better have been a homeowner install and not someone who does it for a living, started talking about taking pride in your work, etc. I want to have him come back to fix it just because of that.

I *do* feel kind of lied to, though. I mean, I admit, the tub WAS a nice draw toward buying this house. And it's not even like I can't just use it, it's RUINED part of the ceiling.
