Went to the ER today because yesterday I had a lot of watery discharge and then lost a good amount of my mucus plug and started experiencing some cramping. The dr discovered my cervix is funneling and I may need to get a cerclage (stitch). Other than that everything else looks good. My bp was normal was for once, his heart rate is great, and he is also measuring one week ahead. Although the funneling isn't good at all I think we found it early enough and that we will be ok. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers today.

Oh, wow! My friend lost her baby at 21 weeks because they said it was too late for a cerclage So glad you are in a better situation, though, and you can get that done so baby bakes a bit longer. Are you on bed rest at all? Good thing you caught it!

Yikes! I thought they don't recommend those after 22 weeks though? Good thing they caught though, and maybe bed rest will help.

From what I've been reading it doesn't look like most doctors do cerclages past 24 weeks so I'm kind of worried now. I won't see the specialist until late tomorrow morning. They're keeping me at the hospital until I see the specialist. I'm pretty sure I'll be on bed rest once I'm out of the hospital.

Hugs. I have read about them being placed later in a pregnancy but they don't do them as routine. I doubt your doctor would have said anything to you about it unless he felt the other doctor would do it. I am hoping they have you with your head lower than your bottom in the hospital? This helps take the pressure off your cervix but it does suck to lay like that!

Keep us updated. Good thoughts to you and baby.

*hugs!!!*

They usually don't do them past 24 weeks because of a) infection and b) they don't work. If you are funneling from the inside, generally modified bedrest works. With my first, I started funneling at 20 weeks, went into PTL at 32 weeks and then went on modified bed rest and all was fine

Since I moved so far when I came to the ER yesterday I decided to come to the closest one and just called my doctor's after hours to let them know I am here so this is a dr/hospital I am unfamiliar with.

I should see the specialist within the next hour, but I did get to talk to the dr again and she also mentioned me being so far along could keep me from getting the cerclage. I googled my behind off last night so I definitely know what questions to ask during this ultrasound and should be able to better gauge just how bad this is. I will update again as soon as I know something.
