I work for the EPA and we are basically closed. Had to go in today a few hours to "shut down". So lame. I sincerely hope it doesn't last long and we get back pay. Especially since I'm planning to use 6 wks of unpaid leave next year! The last thing I need is MORE unpaid leave. Ugh.

It's not affecting us, but I have friends that it is. Hopefully they get things resolved quickly!

We don't work for the government either. I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this. I hope it resolves sooner rather than later.

My friend works for the Census -- he's shut down.

In another 9 business day the Federal Courts will shut down at that effects me because I have about 30 cases pending in Federal Court and that is going to be an absolute disaster.

My mom works for the Department of Energy so she would be affected but luckily they have funding to cover at least 3-4 weeks. She was telling me she went through the same thing back in the 95-96 shut down and they had it in their budget them too.

My mother works for homeland security, they have to report to work but won't be paid for it until the shut down is over.

Yes. Dh is furloughed. Fabulous timing since we just paid big money to move our stuff across the country. We're not even sure if we'll be able to go out there since personnel has been shut down so his paperwork hasn't been finished. Oh and then there's the fact that I have no idea what affect this has on our health insurance. So we're living on savings until this is over.

Benefits aren't affected--at least that's what our agency has said.

our benefits are affected since it's unpaid and we have the choice of continuing it with the COBRA insurance but it has to be paid out of pocket.. luckily I'm about to switch over to hubby's insurance which would take effect on the 16th.

I'm a government employee but fall under NAF so am not furloughed thankfully. I work on a military base though so I know the vast majority are affected where I am.

Not yet. I'm a government contractor. The company announced today that furloughs will start on Monday for several thousand employees. I'm not affected yet, but that could change if Congress doesn't sort out this mess soon!
