I just got confirmation that my FREE Medela breastpump shipped on Friday and should deliver on Wednesday! I'll update again with specifics on the packaging and what they included with the pump. Either way, I'm super excited and I didn't have to wait for any specific time either!!! Has anyone else ordered theirs yet?

I haven't ordered mine yet. Did you have to get a prescription from the Dr?

No, I just called my insurance company and they told me which medical suppliers I needed to order from. I called those companies and ordered the one I wanted. They emailed an order form, I filled it out and emailed it back. They verified my due date and shipped the pump. I sent back the order form last Monday and it shipped on Friday!

*kicks dirt* No. Because my insurance company is poo-doo. They don't cover anything! Heck, if DS needed special formula they wouldn't cover that either! How cruddy!

When I had DD, my Ex DH's insurance was really really good. I NEVER had to come out of pocket for her formula. Her pedi wrote us a prescription for Similac Sensitive and we ordered it online and they sent us 3 cases at a time for FREE! That was 7 years ago. My insurance now, usually sucks, certainly doesn't cover formula, so I was really surprised at the 100% covered breast pump situation!

My insurance company either handles it the way you did yours OR my Dr said he would just write me an RX at the hospital when I deliver and I can get one right at the hospital. We decided to wait at the hospital. Dr better be right because I will be really mad if they don't have any.

My insurance (Kaiser Perm) is pretty sucky in this dept, too, but I *heard* there was a lot of uprising to get them to move away from "single, manual pumps only" to a couple options including elect double pumps, which is what I need.

And...

WHAT? Insurance might cover formula!? Never heard of this (I BF, but I DO supplement with formula on occasion due to travel) and I am totally looking into this, too! I doubt it'll happen, but why not try?

We had United Healthcare back then. I have BCBS now and they don't cover formula. That sure would be nice though even though I do plan on EBF this time. I planned that way last time as well.

I got mine! I have BCBS. I called my insurance, gave my name and address, picked a pump (ameda) and I got it about a week later. I am super impressed. It was so easy, the pump looks good and came with a ton of milk storage bags and spare part stuff, and a really nice bag to carry it in.

I got mine a few weeks ago. I recieve a Hygeia. I'm not familiar with the brand but when I looked it up it sells for $350! I did get an rx from my doctor just in case, but my insurance didn't require it

Insurance will only cover formula if the doctor writes a prescription (and it usually has to be for alumentum or another hypoallergenic brand). Some insurances also require a failure to thrive diagnosis to cover it too.

My insurance will only cover my electric pump after the baby is born. so it looks like I will have to wait for her to show up and then order.

I have the Ameda...none of the medical suppliers offered the Medela anymore through my insurance (United Healthcare). Personally I hate it and use the Medela at the hospital as much as I can. I'm pumping right now (make sure you invest in a hands free bra...LIFESAVER) and I have to do one boob at a time otherwise the suction is horrible and I hardly get any milk. I can pump 4 oz in 15 min with the Medela.
