What do they feel like?

Because I think I've had them before but not entirely sure. I've had my lower stomach get really tight and it be both a little painful and not painful at all. But I don't know if that qualifies as one or not.

Your stomach gets really tight and hard. It doesn't hurt but can make it harder to walk or take your breath away a little bit.

^This exactly. And I usually find that when I get them, my belly changes shapes. Looking down at it, it goes from being more pointy at my belly button to flat during a contraction. Idk if that's just me though

^ditto

When it starts actually hurting is when they are "real".

For me belly gets real tight and annoying. Not painful but annoying. Lasts for about 30 seconds. Annoying scale of 8 but pain scale of 1.

Real contractions are going to hurt.

BH are contractions, what makes them BH is the fact that they are just "practice" and aren't doing anything to dilate or efface you. It can be hard to tell the difference...which is why a lot of preggos go to L&D only to get sent home.

That being said....it is generally tightening and then release, which can range from uncomfortable to painful.

Some BHs can hurt -- Mine usually do . My whole stomach turns into a rock solid mass and feels "heavy".

^^same as above, mine sometimes hurt a bit though. Not sure if maybe that's b/c of c-section scarring? I noticed sometimes I get heart palpitations too.

Yep! In the last week or so with my son, I had loads of painful ones every night and a bout of false labor. But it was just prodromal labor!

And because of all of the false labor, and the fact that my ctrx were irregular, I wasn't convinced my real labor was real until about 10 hours in, hehe

They always say, "oh, you'll know when you're in real labor"! Pfftt

Hmm based on what you ladies have said it sounds like I've had them for a while and didn't even know it lol I was walking around in wal mart the other night, and had been on my feet most of the day and my stomach started tightening and it got a little painful. It felt like everything was about to fall out of my hooha lol

As said above. One way to tell especially if you keep having them if drinking water and lying down on your side for a bit makes the stop...they are BH if doing that and they keep happening after about an hour..real deal.

I din't realize how many I was having but the last 2 doctor's appointments I had, I was having one on the table. My stomach distorts, sticking out on both the left and right, and is fairly hard in those 2 spots. I have to change positions sometimes to get it to stop and then you can much more easily push on those spots. A nurse described it like the difference between pushing on your forehead (contraction) and your chin (not), as far as the "hardness" is concerned.

Your tummy feels like a stretched out rubber band-- really tight. They don't hurt really, just uncomfortable (although sometimes they are more like a menstrual cramp). Mine are sometimes just in one area of my uterus, not even the whole thing.
