My sister took the newborn portraits of DS but we booked a professional to do this baby's pics.

December is SUCH a tricky time to book photographers!!! Especially since most newborn photography is preferred to happen within 14 days of birth. I ended up booking with a lady who is shooting my maternity pics tomorrow. And she will do a year's worth of sessions with the new baby every few months up to one year which is awesome!

I just buy the ones in the hospital and get 2-3 month pics taken later on.

Nah. I'll take them up to Portrait Innovations along with my other two...get Christmas pics and their newborn pics all done at once. They've always done a good job on pics for me. I can't afford to hire a photographer and buy prints...to much $$$

We're having our maternity pics done Sunday so I will ask her how much she charges for a first year package. We'll probably end up at Portrait Innovations as well. One of my friends takes her baby there and has been very happy.

We will go with a local studio that isn't hard to get an appointment with but do great newborn pictures. We're also ding family pictures for Christmas cards/birth announcements at the same time.

I don't think we've EVER had a professional portrait. Not even at our wedding!

Unless you count JCPenney or Portrait Innovations as "professional" photography, neither have we lol. Well except for DS1's Senior pics. Those were $$$. We don't have that kind of money to spend on baby pics.

I've never booked with an independent photographer. My wedding technically was, I guess, but he was a friend and spent most of his time in a studio, so they look like studio shots.

I have never gotten newborn pics of any of my kids done. I DO have a coupon for an $18 package at The Picture People that expires at the end of December. So we'll probably do a family shoot, not one of just him. Did the same thing with Allison (only she was nearly 3 months old).

I did professional pics with my oldest numerous times, way too many! Each of my girls I've gotten the disk and copyright from the hospital photographer that does amazing pictures! And although I don't know how we're going to afford it yet, but that's what I plan on doing again this time. I really wanted to book family photo's soon but we had some major financial things come up this week and don't know how we're even going to afford gifts for our kids this Christmas right now. I know it'll all work out, but I'm on an extremely tight budget now and won't be able to afford professional pics until next spring at least.

We will probably do hospital pics again for this little one. I've thought of having professional pics done with all the kids as a Christmas gift for the grandparents, but we'll see.

one of my best friends is a photographer. she did our maternity pics a couple weeks ago, she will do the birth, and she will do newborn, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18m and then yearly..we do christmas pictures and usually fall family photos. she gives me a stellar deal. she did everything for hunter for free, and now she only charges us $120/session.

Yep... I'm with you, Sandi. No professional pics here, either, even for our wedding. We'll just take a ton and if I can get my kids altogether for a JCP or wherever shot, we may do that, but it may be too late for Christmas? Who knows. I'll look into it, though!

Yes, I found a photographer just getting into newborn photos so she gave away a few sessions for free to build her portfolio. My only hesitation is having to go to her studio which is an hour away.

I'm excited because my first son was in the nicu for almost 2 wks, so no pics other than our own. The second one, I thought of it too late. We tried at 3 wks and no way- he was too alert and screamed whenever I tried to set him down. This is our last chance to get them done.

I'm torn...I want them but not sure if I want to spend the $$$. I have a family photo shoot to use, I just haven't had time to book it. With DH having surgery, there really hasn't been a good time to do it until now, since he was all jacked up for 8 weeks.
