1-6 oz box of cherry jello (this is the big box)
1 package cream cheese
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar
1-20 oz. can crushed pineapple
1 can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup crushed nuts (optional)
2 cups boiling water
Mix together the boiling water and cherry jello until totally dissolved. Mix in the can of pineapple with the juice and the can of cherry pie filling. pour into a 13x9 inch pan and refrigerate until set, about 2 hours.
with a food processor or mixer combine the cream cheese (softened), sour cream and sugar. When jello is set spread this creamy mixture on top and sprinkle with the crushed nuts. chill about an hour before serving.
Hint: for lower cal use lowfat cream cheese and sour cream, sugar free, fat free jello and lite cherry pie filling.

My grandma always made this for pot lucks and we always wondered why it was called "salad" LOL! She also made something green that she called a salad- not green vegetables, it was some sort of jello dessert. She just called it "salad" that was its name!It had marshmallows and I think cool whip in it. This doesn't have much to do with the recipe, I am just taking a walk down memory lane, which was induced by the above recipe Thanks for sharing it!
