When we first found out I was pregnant we asked DS if he wanted a baby and he said "Yes, please". We asked if he wanted a brother or sister and he said "baby butter".

After my first u/s I showed DS the photo of the baby and he scolded me for putting a baby in my mouth. He did not think babies belonged in someone's mouth. I told him that the baby was in my belly and he told me that he thought his "baby butter" was going to arrive by car. He spent all day looking occasionally looking out the window and at one point during evening he announced that he did not think his "baby butter" was coming today.

The day I had my first midwife appointment at dinner we asked DS what he would think if he had a baby sister and he announced that he wants a baby that likes "cars, trains..... AND MONSTER TRUCKS!".

Yesterday, while I was laying on the couch I gave DS a lecture on how I have a baby growing in my belly and he needs to be careful when climbing onto me. He gently laid on top of me and announced that he was the baby ON my belly.

How cute is that!!!! Hes going to be a great big "butter" LOL Ryan gets it too, granted I know Seb just turned three and ryans turning 4 in jan, but Ry will come up and kiss my belly, and say baby. But he doest ask when he/she is coming, I think he knows my stomach will grow and he'll be able to feel the baby kick. But when he cuddles up with me to take his nap, he will put his hand on my belly and rub it and say baby lol. I thought Luke got it (hes 2) but now he points to his belly and says baby hahahhahaha!

So cute -- I love that he's going to have a "baby butter!". Betsy turned three in September and we think she "gets it" (or at least the important parts). She knows that the baby is growing in Mommy's tummy (although sometimes she points to my breasts and says that's where the baby is). She knows I can't pick her up. She is excited to do things like feed the baby and change his/her diaper. She also has decided that the baby likes certain foods and so she'll give me something and tell me to eat it because the baby likes it. I think she's accepted the idea that it will in fact be a human baby and not a dolphin.

Too cute! I think they do get it in their own way, and that's why we told our 2 year old pretty early on, once we got past betas and ultrasounds. At first he seemed confused because how can the baby be in my belly when the "baby" is napping in her bed (our then 6 month old, now 7 1/2 month old). He would point at Isabelle with the confused look lol, then within a week he was wanting to use my doppler to hear his own baby and that has become a daily thing for him. I show him the baby's hb on the doppler and as soon as he sees me with it hes start yelling "baby!" So I think he's getting it... of course being two he still thinks he must have a baby in his belly too. I think once I start showing and he can feel the baby kicking it will be even more interesting to him.

T turned 3 in Sept and she totally gets it. We spent a lot of time talking to her about it when her friends recently became big sisters. She has NO idea how much things are going to change but she completely gets that the baby is in my belly (she'll proudly tell she has eggs in her belly that will become babies when she's big) and that I'm going to push it out my vagina. She asked me the other day why my boobs were bigger and I told her it was so they can make lots of milk for the baby. She was a little worried the next time she nursed if she was drinking too much but I told her not to worry and that the baby doesn't need it yet.
