Hi ladies so I've been having cramping and when I get cramping my back absolutely kills me. I asked my friend who had a baby last year and she said I am not supposed to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) yet. She said when I'm further along I can but not now. Is this right? I just can't find any relief sometimes, I try putting my feet up, laying down, everything and nothing seems to help except if I take Tylenol

You are fine to take tylenol at any time in your pregnancy however asparine and ibruprofin are off limits for the duration.
If you are ever confused or worried, go to Drugs in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding | SafeFetus.com and plug in the medication name and it will tell you what class it is. Class A is considered safe, B is considered safe once in a while, could cause issues if taken often, Class C is considered off limits, Of course if you are perscribed a medication by your doctor, they will weigh the risks of treating you vs not. But this is a nice basic guide site

I would try to avoid it if possible. Tylenol is supposed be safe in pregnancy, but I would only use it as a last resort in the 1st trimester. There's just way too many critical things forming and developing with the baby.

With that said, I was sick as a dog a couple weeks ago and I was so afraid all the coughing was going to knock something loose or pull a muscle, I had to cave and take some Robitussin.

I look at it this way. When you get to the point where the pain is so high that the stress caused from the discomfort could harmful to the baby, that's when the medicine is a safer option. But if it's just a minor ache that you can live with, I'd avoid the medicine. At least until first trimester is over.
