I've been hearing that if you rub coconut oil or baby oil on you're belly everyday before you start showing until the bitter end that it can prevent stretch marks! I've started with the baby oil but I'm pretty skeptical.. Has anyone else done this with success or is it just a myth?!

I think you're either prone to getting them or you're not, so I never tried to prevent them... I knew they'd be coming in full force. But heck, if you're not sure you may as well give it a try!

I know there is some evidence that stretch marks tend to be genetic, but it certainly can't hurt. And hey, the oils for stretch marks smell amazing, so there really is no downside!

I just read this article today:

Stretch Marks: Hold the Cocoa Butter

It sounds like the only preventative measure is limiting weight gain during pregnancy.

Stretch marks are likely genetic. It doesn't hurt to keep moisturized to prevent itchiness, but there's nothing that will prevent or get rid of them.

I haven't found a way to prevent them. I bathed with baby oil the entire time I was pregnant last time and got tons of stretch marks lol. I have bio oil and it has helped fade my current ones so I will keep using it and hopefully at least save myself from the itch!

But the good news is they fade.

I will use coconut oil with some lavender. But I dont think it will really prevent them, just helps to feel better when your skin is tight and dry. and it smells nice and helps relax you some.

I heard that about the Coconut Oil… I do not know where to find it though! I know I feel itchy and the lotion REALLY helps!

I had twins on Jan 14 th. I delivered at 35w6d. I gained 50 lbs, most of which was my stomach as I only have 13lbs left to lose. My babies were 5 lb4oz, and 4lb3.6 oz. they each had their own sac, and I had a very large placenta (according to the delivering dr lol). So just to give you perspective that I had over 9lbs of babies and a lot of fluid etc in there.
I only got a few stretch marks on my stomach, nothing that would prevent me from wearing a 2 piece again when I get back in shape. If I didn't have twins I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten any stretch marks at all.
I used Mama Mio stretch mark oil throughout my pregnancy. I don't know if it helped, or if it's genetics (my mom and grandma both said they didn't get any stretch marks when they were pregnant). But I'm glad I used it! It's similar to Bio Oil, and Bio Oil is cheaper. If anything it helped prevent an itchy tummy, because I never complained about that!

One of my friends used cocoa butter lotion when she was pregnant, and she only got a couple of stretch marks on her hips.

I'd also suggest not gaining weight too fast. I gained the recommended/healthy amount every week, and never gained too fast.
