Kinda freaking as I am reading up on my health insurance and learning they tend not to cover a lot of ultrasounds, especially the 20 week one!!! Anyone have Aetna?

So after being transferred around to 4 different people, they told me it *should* be covered since I have an Open Access plan and usually everything is covered. But I'm still going to make sure the dr puts in a pre authorization for any sonogram they give me.

As far as I know the 20 week ultrasound is medically necessary so insurance should cover it. But I really don't know much about insurance

I just called the doctors office and asked them about it all. Talked to billing and she said that all the ultrasounds they do in the doctor office are medically necessary and if they refuse, they send back more documentation to prove why its medically necessary and appeal it. So hopefully this is fine.

Insurance is the worst. We have to purchase our own insurance and our coverage is horrible. Basic office visits are just about all that is covered. I will have to pay a good percentage out of pocket for all lab work, ultra sounds, and the delivery. It will be a small fortune when all is said and done.

Ugh, I had Aetna when I worked at Macy's. It was so expensive and the out of pockets were high.... I hope they do cover it! But good idea checking to make sure the doc is certified through them ahead of time.

I am using a birthing center and my total cost is 2,700. Luckily Medicaid covers most of it so I'll only pay for maybe $100.

Just for delivery I'll be paying 2200 after the insurance covers I just don't get how I pay $500 a month for insurance as still have to pay this much for a delivery. And worry about if all my tests and procedures will be covered.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat.
