Anyone thinking of this/ heard of it?

I asked my doc and he says there is no hardcore facts to support it. I have been researching it. I figure it really cant hurt anything. It is supposed to help adjust hormones faster, increase milk production, help baby blues, among other things. I think I may try it if we can come up with the funds. The place closest to us charges $150... so we shall see.

I dont know how i feel about it. I mean, i know animals do it and it wouldnt hurt. Plus with encapsulation, chances are there wont be much flavor to it and maybe even could be mixed in with a smoothie or something. Idk, if it's not crazy expensive here, i might consider it. I know my mom's dog (not to compare this to our pregnancies lol) she just had her first fully natural birth out of 4 litters and she did have the chance to eat the placentas. She bounced back much quicker than her last pregnancies and seemed a lot more connected to her pups. Sorry about the weird analogies, lol. But if it will help decrease my chances of PPD (as my chances are already pretty high) i think i might consider it. Might talk it over more with my OB though.

With DD2 I suffered PPD pretty bad and never want to do that again. Seems like a natural way to help avoid it. I was also reading that what you don't take you can freeze for menopause.

I have a lot of friends that have done this.

I'm in two minds about it. I get the ick factor but really a lot of us eat chicken eggs that isn't much better!

I am doing my own! The person who does it around here charges $200 and I just don't have the cash to do that but I really really want to do it. I'm thinking I'm going to have them cut a piece off at birth and put it in a smoothie for me also. The benefits are amazing, I would definitely not pass on them!

Yes, I am pretty sure I don't want to see it. I think our hosp puts it in a bag for you.

Fromgirltomommy--- how do you do it yourself? Are there directions somewhere? where do you get capsules? I think I'll pass on the smoothie though!

It seems really really easy. I know a bunch of jm mommies who have done it. You can order the capsules from Amazon.

This is my friend Angela's blog post about how she did hers. I am going to follow it. Seems so do able and the only part that *might* gross me out (but I doubt it) is when you have to rinse it to get all the blood out.

We have our differences, like any couple does, but he is really good to do lots of stuff. I showed him the blog and he said he'd do it. It does seem easy and would save a ton of money.

Hi, I am super gross, and poor

But for real. I drank the smoothie immediately postpartum and had one a day for two weeks after. My SO made them and my midwife cut up little squares and froze them for us so I never had to see it. My mood and energy were great and I have VERY little bleeding. I will be doing it again. It cost me nothing but the yogurt I mixed it with. I will however need a new blender.
