I used to watch all of the parades when I was younger, but my DS has never been too in to it (except for the music he likes that). Football watching is big here too as we live in MI and the Lions play, so there is a lot of yelling at the TV on Thanksgiving.
I think i'm the oddball, but I am not a fan of Thanksgiving at all. It's HOURS of cooking and cleaning up for a 20 minute meal.
I used to not mind it as much as a kid, but as an adult, I would rather skip it. My family doesn't do as much as they used to and we used to have tons of yummy food so that was good at least, but not so much anymore. Hubby's family is all males and only my father-in-law cooks so there's very little food and most of it isn't great. Then it's sitting around watching football the rest of the day. It is sooooooo boring.
Usually we go to his Maw Maw's at noon, I will normally fix some crock pot mac and cheese, then we go to his Grandma's at 5. Sometimes his Mom will do something too.
I never know what the menu will be, I usually bring crock pot Mac and Cheese for the first meal, and I try for a dessert for the second meal. One of his sister's is getting married on Thanksgiving, so we'll be missing the meal at his Grandma's. I think his Mom is going to do a meal the Sunday before. His sister is supposed to have some friend chicken and a few other things.
I really miss being with my family, with my family growing up it was an all day thing. We all went to my grandma's (and after she passed, My Mom's) and spent the day together, playing, watching the parade, and football. There would be crackers and cheese and pepperoni a few hours before the meal and we'd sit down around dinner time. His family is more like a drop in, eat and go kinda thing.
Thank you *Kiliki* for once again doing such amazing work on a siggie
