I had hoped to go camping this weekend as we are avid campers, and was slightly dissapointed when my husband said it wasnt a good idea. Goood thing I listened. I had been a Gestational diabetic on insulin and was starting regular nst's and Ob appointment and they had even discussed a membrane sweep at 38 weeks which would have been the 6th. On sat morn I woke up to a wee bit of the poops and the first contractions. I was in such denial about it being real labour because the felt like they were too short. One of my fears is being that one women sent home for false labour. As my labours are generaly quite quick, (and we live 30 min from the hosptital) my husband suggested we call the hospital at 8:30 am.
The doc on call quickly suggested we come in as the contractions were making me emotional and hard to talk. we dropped off our toddler at grannies and arrived at the hospital just after 9. I was checked at 9:30 and was 3 cm dilated. Contractions 3-4 min apart. by 10:15 they checked again and we had made it to a five. i started the gas to take the edge off. at 10:45 i was quite vocal so the doc checked me and had reached 8 cm dialated and my water was bulging. The doc decided to break my membrane which sped things up some more. At 11:10 i had just rolled to my side to releive that intense back pressure . The new position ligned her up perfectly and i had to push. i screamed "she's coming". My husband told the nurse whom quickly called for the doc. She barely ran in on time. I pushed Brynn out in one solid heave at 11:13.
She was beautiful. Nursing is going splendid. And cant wait to read more birthing stories in the days to come.
